... are giving up cable TV because they just can't afford it in the lingering recession

Yeah, but, I'll be not many of them are willing to give up their cell-phones or smartphones or internet service to get on Facebook.

I paid the bill, but hell will freeze over before I EVER do business with DirecTV again.

Similar experience here. DirecTV reps have only a nodding acquaintance with truth.

Just got this UHF - VHF HDTV and its wonderful. $35 and worth every penny. 49 free HDTV channels. Disconnect cable in attic and added this antenna. Amazing reception better than cable. Also added amp after antenna (long cable runs to TV) for signal strength to all TVs. Will be going with Netflix and Amazon.

Last week returned the LEAF antenna because of poor reception and it did not provide UHF.

I talked to a guy at a company social who watched broadcast digital. I was surprised at how much he got, which maybe I shouldn’t have been since we do live in the Chicago metropolitan area.

“Roku: I checked their offerings.

Doesn’t have any of the channels I use on cable”

True, Roku will not replace cable in its current form.

Someday, the free market may make cable obsolete if streaming internet TV gets competitive enough by adding those channels.

A few months after I got my Roku last year, I noticed it had about ten times as many channels as when I first got it. Maybe its just wishful thinking, but a lot of people are tired of paying high cable prices for a LOT of channels they do not watch.

Most everyone has about half a dozen channels like your list they want, and could not care less about the hundreds of other channels that come with cable.
