it is not hard to figure out why any school would take this position.
Soooo, some nasty stuff gets posted at FR once in a blue moon and they block FR.
But really vile stuff gets posted 24/7 over at DU and they don't get blocked?
Guess again ...

Several years ago, a compnay I worked for blocked the Free Republic saying it was a “Militia Site”. Even when the head of the IT Department browsed the site, he still said it seemed to promote “militia type thinking”. I quit the next day. they went bankrupt within the next 2 years due to fraud and mismanagement.

She notes that when one tries to open Free Republic on any school computer, they get a message warning them that the site is blocked for being unsuitable for viewing. However, Daily Kos, Democratic Underground, Huffington Post, Obama for Re-election, and other "balanced" sites can be opened at the click of a few keys.Make an "instructional" clip by videoing the sequence: 1) Try to get on FR - blocked; 2) try Daily Kos - accepted; 3) try DU - accepted; 4) another Lefty outlet, etc., etc.
Post it on YouTube as an example of selective censorship and at some point, somebody higher up will fold once the light is on them. This is the Internet age, i.e. instant widespread exposure. Use it to make these roaches run.

Defending comments made here is not the point. We were discussing why a school would block FR and not DU, and you insinuated that it was because somehow FR was so much more controversial and hateful. I say that is BS because comments at the non-blocked sites are just as bad if not far worse. Hopefully, you’ll understand the point now.

The free exchange of ideas: Anathema to The Left!
Those who deviate from Leftist Dogma: Heretics!
Massachusetts hasn't changed much since old scarlet letter days.

Hey, pabianice.
It would be a matter of manners if you acknowledged those who are trying to help you and your stupid friend out.
But then, you have no knowledge of Emily Post or Miss Manners.
>>Sorry, but with comments like... “The only good queer is a dead queer” “All black kids are suspiscious” “I am now a full-blown racist” ...all by different long-time, ‘respected’ freepers, it is not hard to figure out why any school would take this position.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That’s a joke, right. Have you ever waded into the Kos or DU swamp? No, you haven’t, have you. They throw-around all the words you can’t say on TV, urge the murders of conservatives they don’t like, and pray for the deaths of Republicans. Are you a troll, by any chance?

FreeRepublic has been blocked at my work for the last few years and just recently opened back up. I have found most places block access to web sites by their names through the DNS name server. You can bypass this by entering the web sites IP address (209.157.64.200 for FreeRepublic) into the address bar instead of the name and therefore skip the DNS name server.
If you can access through this method, you will be able to read but not log-in or post due to FreeRepublic substituting the name back in when you click the log-in button.
