Around here we plink them with .22’s by the hundreds.
Why?
Young Jeff should have had hit bottom whooped.
Cause there so fast and elusive but more so,
This is why...DainBramage
Harmless critters.
47 years...That’s almost as long as massive alcoholic, 3rd world immigrant enabler and woman drowner Ted Kennedy was Senator.
They probably weren’t protected 40 years or so ago when the initials were carved in it.
“Harmless critters.”
I’m gonna’ give DainBramage the benefit of the doubt and say that he posted without thinking. We’ve all done that in the past.
If that’s not the case, then he’s got a serious ‘manhood’ issue to deal with.
Nobody will deny that they make easy “targets”, sitting out there on a log basking in the sun......for a ten year-old kid that just got his first .22 for his birthday, that is.
I got Box turtle that live just behind my property.... for the past 3 years I have had remove it from my yard as my dog thinks its great fun to play catch and fetch with... no doubt I will have to do so again this year... And yes I know its the same box turtle, my son decorated the edge of its shell with a silver sharpy marker the first year we found it.
We actually shoot them when they pop thier heads up out of the water. Much harder to do than you think.
BS
Many years ago I worked on a large cattle ranch and we also had stock tanks. They were about 3’ high and made of corregated metal.
Climbing turtles? C’mon, my FRiend, we’re not that stupid. Besides that, I would think that the rotting carcasses of “...hundreds of turtles” would poison the well, so to speak.
You must be that stupid and never been out west. Stock tanks and ponds are the same,, DUH
I honestly can’t think of a reason I’d shoot a turtle.
They’re one of the good guys.
And there literally are hundreds of them. BTW what is a climbing turtle?
Those are snappers in the tanks- they are a pest species, and can be quite dangerous. Everybody shoots them. I once saw one in the middle of a road near a lake that was big enough to be a traffic hazard- and two teenage girls standing right by it wanting to help it. I pulled up and told them to get away from the thing before they lost some fingers or toes- and then called the cops to get animal control out there and dispose of the thing.
This article is about a box turtle- they are a harmless, helpful species, and nobody shoots them. In fact, if I see one in the road, I’ll pull over and put it off the road.
The story is about tortoise “Box Turtle” not what those of in Texas know is the water turtle called a “slider”.
Secondly, its pretty lame to be shooting a rifle at a low angle on the water, the damn 22 can fly a mile from glancing off water surface. Want to shoot, go to a range, we don't need to be dodging your whizzing ricochet bullets every weekend!
In West Texas they call a pond a “stock tank”, even though lots of ranches do have a “steel or concrete tank” next to a windmill for cattle.
