Eight of us went to see it together and the theater was packed. We really enjoyed it. It is about as close as Hollywood will ever get to the orginal book version. I have to give them credit there. So for me it was a good flick.
I mean they have butchered so many great books trying to set them to film. Tom Clancy’s “Sum Of All Fears” for one I mean neo-nazis for real as bad guys, then there is “Battlefield Earth” don’t even get me started on that one. Those two come to mind right off the top of my head. Thou “Absoult Power” was not a bad film but if you read the book it was so much better that it was not even a contest.
For some reason getting hollywierd to grasp the real spirit and actuality of a literary work seems almost impossible because they always want to PC it up to make some stupid political point that they think the viewing public will all of sudden change their mind on when in reality the viewer just can’t relate to it at all.
I like “The Walking Dead” but hope they get into more of the scifi part of zombie creation and do some stuff there. But we will see. Grimm is not bad but they need to get him more into the monster hunter profiling killer roll and less into “Can't we all just get along” themes. Merlin they had a lot of good stuff to work with but it has become kinda one dimensional in plots same with Sanctuary. I love Amanda Tapping but that show just got boring after awhile.
“Once Upon A Time” I find interesting and I am glad Robert Carlyle found a new gig after Stargate Universe. His character on SU had a lot of potential to do a lot more with but I guess the writers didn't want to use it.
You really can't blame "Hollywood" for that one, it was ALL the "church" of Scientology. They funded it, took care of the screen play, picked the director and cast one of their own as Terl.
I heard the Hunger Games book is really blaming reality TV and the reader is the bad guy for watching or something while the movie just has an evil Prez.
Does that sound right?
I did ... thought that the premise was very original, even among the other "aliens attack" books within the genre. Kept me guessing until the last few pages ...
My wife and I DVR "Fringe" and "Once Upon a Time" so that we don't miss an episode.
Personally, I think that the Rumplestilskin character played by Robert Carlyle is the best character on television. It must be a great experience (plus a lot of fun) to play such a character with no limits ...
How about Prometheus??? I did see the preview and it looks good.
Robert Carlyle is a great actor. Do you remember him from The Full Monty? (one of my all time favorite movies!)

He is my hubby's favorite character in that show, by far. We both really enjoy this show. We have had weird viewing habits on Sundays. We would begin with the zombies from The Walking Dead and then end with Once Upon a Time.

Hasn’t ‘John Carter’ been done like 20 times now?
I remember sort of seeing one version recently that had porn star Traci Lords starring in it, and looking kind of old i might add.
So are these ‘Hunger Games’ a ripoff of the the great Japanese flick ‘Battle Royale’ or is it a ripoff of the great Stephen King story “The Long Walk’ or just a cheap knockoff version of ‘The Running Man”?
I hear this ridiculous sounding title is actually a series of three or more books that i have never heard from.

I did hear of Battle Royale though, as i imagine the author did also.
I’m sure i’m missing a few (hundred) other movies/plots/stories that are almost exactly the same.
All i know is if i have to hear about these HUNGER Games on tv, print, radio for the next two months i’m gonna go nuts.
There are some similarities to "Long Walk" and "Running Man", But you could also say that Both of those are knock offs of the Roman "Bread and Circuses."
This trilogy is actually a dystopian commentary on a possible future scenario for the US if we continue to allow our rights to be eroded by the government. It is mainly aimed at the Young Adult crowd, and quite a few of the students at my school have read it, are reading it, or on the waiting list.
The plot lines are well paced you do feel an emotional attachment to the characters and the author (Suzanne Collins) crafts a good story by keeping the political undertones just under the surface.
Prepare to go nuts. The opening weekend box office was $155 million. There are about 26 million copies in print in North America and Hunger Games was on the best seller lists for something like 3 years. Also, the studio has already announced that the second book of the trilogy, Catching Fire, will also be made into a movie with a release date in 2013.

The new BSG was one of the best shows on television.
Far superior to the cheezy original and its robot pooch.
