I’m with you. My first smart phone, non-Blackberry experience was with an LG Fathom, Microsoft Mobile OS. Let me tell you, it was the most frustrating experience of my life the six months or so I had that thing - so much so that I thought that all handhelds were an overhyped joke, of no real use to me or my business.

Then I got my Droid 2. Man, it was like giving a Harley to a kid who’d only ever ridden a moped. Never really putzed around with an iPhone, but from what little I’ve seen it’s fairly similar to Andriod. I gotta say, though, the whole walled garden/Apple “experience” thing kind gives me the creeps - kind of a Heaven’s Gate sort of vibe, you know?

Anyway, I was so soured by the Microsoft experience that I would have a really hard time trusting another device that runs on them without getting a full, in-depth demo first.

I use a Blackberry Bold. It’s about three years old, so it’s almost time for a new phone.

I’m thinking of getting the Droid 3, because it will be cheap when the Droid 4 is released. But the Lumina 9, which will be Windows flagship phone is also a possibility.

Still somewhat undecided.

I have never heard an iPhone user say they don’t like their device. In fact they state they love it.

Droid users say their phone is “ok”. Some love it, but also some merely tolerate it.

I am quite amazed that the iPhone is a device that everyone likes. I cannot think of another item large or small that matches that criterion.

LOL! If it was a live dvd like most Linux distros without having to do a complete install they would get more takers!
I did run a live disc of Android on my computer and liked it so well I would have installed it but there was no option for it.

I have heard iphone users who don’t (or did not and switched) like the iphone. It seems to come from people who were non-apple users. Also another complaint is the number of “steps” to get to something like making a phone call, take a picture etc.

The most annoying iphone people are those who speak in such glowing terms that you would swear the mere ownership of an iphone causes one’s poop to no longer stink.

Having been with mac since it was released and having been a mac developer I have a few observations...

It is the best hardware / os in existence and while most mac people are devotees I know several who have literally thrown their iPhones in the trash. This is mostly due to Apples closed environment and ignorant business practices.

Google has always been interested in simplicity and openness. I’ve not used an Android phone so no feed back there.

If success is measured in sales and dollars then it would seem Apple (second richest corp in the world) and Microsoft are successes. If it is measured as functional and ease of use products... then Microsoft has never once produced a useful product and never will.

Apple did not learn it’s lesson with DRM in it’s iTunes music store. Forcing developers to pay for the privilege of making Apple rich is criminal... creating a development cycle that is outrageously stupid is insane.

I’ll never develop for Apple again but am looking at Android. Yes, it’s easier and open so there will be a lot of crap... but, the quality gems will prevail.

What has to really go is this free / ads mentality which creates an overwhelming mass of garbage and denigrates quality development.

Apple may think they are the top of the heap and can call all the shots. Indeed, they did revolutionize the industry but they should be reminded that Rome was the most powerful city in the world before the Roman Empire fell.
