I just heard Sarah on Hannity. She said that she didn’t “retreat” and now she felt free to say whatever she thinks. I don’t see why a campaign would have restricted her message in any way.
She rattled off half a dozen or more objectives and qualities that she hopes to see in a candidate. After each, I said, audibly though to myself, “Yeah YOU are that candidate who could have espoused those issues.” The “guy” that she is looking for has left for the North Slopes. The magic is really gone now. It’s a shame. I’m sure that she feels relief that the decision has been made, but as the campaign unfolds, “what might have been” will hang around like a long shadow at sunset, and its lurking will be painfully obvious to all, including Sarah.

I “trust” Cain and Bachmann, but both are dreadfully inexperienced

This author is obviously not up to date on Cain.

Perry is folding, and he’s not really a conservative anyway, and Cain will eventually be bumped off b/c of his former position with the deservedly unpopular Fed. Do I sound defeated? I can’t see the Romney money losing, except very possibly next November. Bob

“What are her principles?”

In her own words, “ - to actively and aggressively help those who will stop the “fundamental transformation” of our nation and instead seek the restoration of our greatness, our goodness and our constitutional republic based in the rule of law.”

That’s good enough for me.

” - YOU are that candidate who could have espoused those issues.”

I understand your disappointment. I’d like nothing better than Sarah Palin to be governing from the White House (after it was fumigated and exorcised).

But we have to consider this: they (the media and the rest of the Demonrats) would have destroyed her completely - and her family. I mean DESTROYED, as they did Joe McCarthy and Ken Starr, only worse. They love picking on women and blacks. Wait ‘till you see what they do to Herman Cain.

Since I don’t feel like typing another long response, I’m just going to repost my thoughts on Sarah’s decision and statement that I posted on another thread:

1) Good for Sarah. I bet she realized that she would not win the general election and instead will allow an electable conservative to run. It takes a strong character to put aside their personal ambitions to do what is best for their country.

2) If she is really not running for fear of her family, that is a telling reflection on the state of this country and should serve as a wake-up call for all.

3) The reactions of her most ardent supporters are amazing and unsurprising. This is what happens when you put too much faith in one imperfect woman.

4) The stool of conservatism has three complementary legs. They are social conservatism, fiscal conservatism, and national defense conservatism. Her letter reflects a disturbing trend, which is emphasizing fiscal conservatism at the expense of social conservatism and national defense conservatism.

Sorry, but economic issues are the least of our worries right now. Sure, Obama is implementing the worst economic policies in the history of our nation. However, our nation is sill very wealthy. People all over the world still dream about living at the high material standard that we do, and most people who ever set foot on this earth would die to live like the “poorest” among us do. On the other hand, a million of our most innocent are butchered a year in their very own mothers’ wombs, its becoming more and more the case that we are beginning to be forced to pretend that Adam and Steve are married, and the institution of the nuclear family is still in shambles. On the national defense side, suicidal mullahs in Iran are beginning to get nuclear capabilities, a new and better than ever caliphate is potentially forming in the Middle East, the existence of Israel is being put in ever increasing danger, not-so-friendly China is still on the rise, and we have porous borders that our emperor refuses to close. As for miscellaneous issues, our Second Amendment rights are being pried away from us, we have a ridiculous amount of illegal immigrants, people are acting like global warming isn’t a laughable scam, race-relations are being set back decades, and we have a wannabe president in office doing his best to either destroy this nation and/or become dictator of America, caliph, or ruler of the universe.

So yeah, fiscal conservatism is important, and it complements the rest of the conservative platform. But the economy is not the #1, consensus, by-far most important issue right now, and conservatives should stop acting like it is.

"...just maybe there's a chance she will get in the race after God gets her attention."

Indeed, and a reminder of one of my all time favorite scripture passages, which is:

"Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying..." - Jonah 3:1

Such grace and mercy from our God, even after we disobey and are chastised.

My only other thought was that perhaps her and Todd had set out a "fleece," that if another Godly, conservative candidate was running and was electable, she would not enter the race and risk splitting the Tea Party vote, thereby handing the nomination to Mittens. The recent Cain surge would then have been interpreted as The Lord's "no."

Many thanks for your refreshing wisdom and great insight.

I've been a Palinista since I first learned about her in 2007, but my thoughts and opinions follow this author's closely. What infuriates me at this stage was her cutsie-cutsie "Now you see me, now you don't. Maybe I will, maybe I won't..." There's an uncouth word for girls who like to play that sort of teasing game and leave their men panting in agony -- I won't repeat it here.

Sigh...

Suffice to say it would have been so MUCH better if she had decided and announced this months ago. Better for the country, better for Conservatives, better for the Republican Party -- and better for her own credibility -- which has now been shot to pieces.

She is never going to regain the level of trust and passionate dedication that was hers until yesterday. That's a fact.

At the national level, she has one more chance. She will have to choose a candidate, back that candidate enthusiastically, and that candidate will have to win. If she doesn't, two years from now she'll probably be hosting a 3 a.m. talk radio show somewhere in the boonies.

I thought about that; however, even she knows how fleeting a "surge" can be ("flavor of the week"). Also, she made no mention of that when provided her reasons for not running. Basically the 2 reasons she gave was that she was putting family in front of country and that she can be as effective out of office as she can be in office.

I'm trying very hard to understand those reasons. People put country in front of family (if you want to look at it that way) all the time. Members of the military put country in front of family when they serve, just as her son did. Of course serving the country IS serving family as well in the military as it would be in the White House. If we get 4 more years of Obama or a RINO elected in 2012, has she served her family well?

As for her influence, a great deal of that was her VP spot on the GOP ticket in 2008 (soon to be ancient history) and the possibility of her running in 2012. When she was still governor of Alaska, she was an office holder AND a potential POTUS contender. Then she resigned as governor of Alaska, but still had the aura of potential candidate. Now she has neither, and I think her influence and draw will be greatly reduced. If she really thinks she can have as a great of an influence on society as a non-office holder and non-candidate as she could as President, I think she is in for a very rude awakening.

Her worst detractors would say that she quit the governorship to cash in on her name and strung her fans along as long as she could to soak them for everything she could before having to admit at the last possible moment that she would not be running for President. I do NOT want to believe that is the case, but she really isn't doing anything to prove that assertion wrong. I pray she proves them all wrong.

If concern about personal destruction was her deciding factor, she should have withdrawn herself from consideration long, long ago. B/c this realization is nothing new. Now her detractors will conider her a joke, and her supporters will no longer be as inspired when she speaks. The magic of Sarah Palin was always contingent upon the possibility that her goodness and wisdom would one day restore America from the Oval Office. She will soon realize this. Bob

I disagree with most of what you posted. I think it was human nature to want to run. I think God has other plans. I believe she would have gone against what God has planned had she run.

We have entered the prophetic end times. This nation will continue a downward spiral into what will ultimately be a one world government.

Its obvious you “missed the point” ! Ms. Palin most decidedly chose not to run in order to support the Republicans. IOW, she - unlike you, apparently - knows a “third party” political division at this point would mean another Obama term - and all that implies !

IMNSHO, Ms. Palin isn’t “quitting” on anything ! Rather, she’s remaining true to her credo of faith in America and its Libertarian principles she’s so long espoused !

But, by all means, parrot the lamestream media meme ! Its your perogative and right ! But, I humbly suggest, you take some time to learn a little more history and political science ! >PS

So, you believe it is "God's will" that "this nation will continue a downward spiral into what will ultimately be a one world government" and that if Sarah were to be President it "would have gone against what God has planned".

Interesting take. Maybe you are right; however, if I had a nickel for each time I've heard someone say "we have entered the prophetic end times" during my lifetime I could be one of the "rich, fatcat Wall Street bankers" Obama loves to demonize and then beg for monetary support.

This nation has faced some very dark days before. Thank God good people just didn't throw up their hands and say "well, this is the end of the world, so no since trying to do anything about it", and actually did something about it. I can't imagine that would be against God's will.

Now where in that post did you get the idea that there is any throwing up of the hands or not trying to do anything to keep going? I’m 63 years old and have also been through the times when people claimed “the end is near”.

My point was, and still is, that Palin did want to run and change things. I also believe that in some way God convinced her not to. God will indeed stop us from doing something that is contrary to His plan for our lives if that conflicts with His overall plan.

My time frame for the end times started with the establishment of the nation of Israel once again. In Psalms we find that the length of a mans life is 70 perhaps 80 years. The generation that saw Israel re-established as a nation will see the things Jesus was speaking of.

He also told us to keep doing till He comes so in no way would I advocate “giving up”. I do believe however that whatever we do Gods word will not be changed.

She did quit the Governorship.

But her supporters rationalized that she quit the governorship to use that 'freedom' to run for President.

Turns out she quit the Governorship to quit the Governorship-period.
