*snort* Touche’!
The one you're displaying.
Fine post. That is indeed the way it was. After the hostage crisis, Carter got a huge bump in the polls and was pretty consistently defeating Reagan, sometimes by as much as 20 points until the summer of 1980. These polls were part of the reason people said that Reagan couldn’t win...that Bush was more electable. And if not Bush, theEstablishment tried hard to draw Gerald Ford into the race, claiming (and using polls to prove it) that Ford could defeat Carter, but that Reagan could not.
Thank God conservatives stood to their tackle and continued to back Reagan in the face of the media onslaught that he was under. I expect that Palin will do no less.
Love that post, Gargantua. Well said!
“Regarding the media puff, Bachmann would do well to remember what Sarah said in an open letter to the 2010 congress; When the media starts to say nice things about you, you should take that as a red flag.”
Absolutely true. And thanks for the kind comments.
Wow, ever look up the word “irony”?
MB is in it to win, sans Mitt, sans Palin and the GOP. Palin isn't in it yet, and may not be, so more power to her (MB).
Sail on silver girl(s).
The Dems, MSM and even the GOP Establishment could and would tear MB to shreds the minute she outlived her usefulness.
They’re doing it right now! Why should FR jump in on the stoning of one of their leading candidates?
Your point is what? That I'm some sort of mirror image of the Bachmann bashing loonytoons? Doesn't fit. I like them both, a lot. You will find no Palin bashing anywhere in my posting history
It's just clear that this anti Bachmann thing that has sprung up on this ostensibly conservative site sadly confirms at least one thing lefty critics say; there is a strain of serious cognitive incompetence present in a minority of Freepers. It's hard to escape the conclusion that some people posting on this subject are really messed up when it comes to simple tasks like thinking clearly about politics. They really are bumpkins and simpletons, just like hard left critics of Palin have asserted. They are tiny in numbers for sure, but their club of emotionally driven hayseeds is holding its meetings right here.
No, they aren’t. Sure, there’s a little nibbling around the edges, but you mostly have Democrats in the media who historically savaged Bachmann now talking her up and promoting her as wildly as they can.
When Chris Matthews becomes an energetic fan, you know that she’s a useful stalking horse for them.
“this anti Bachmann thing”
This “anti-Bachmann thing”, as you call it, is a campaign. I have directed no personal attack toward Bachamnn’s looks or her family as some of the PDS sufferers here have done to Palin.
I have commented on matters in her record, including the Vennes pardon, both substantively (because it raises a very grave appearance of impropriety on Bachmann’s part) and in terms of the incoherence of the letter she wrote on his behalf. I have also commented on her electoral prospects, comparing her to Congressman Phil Crane who was very similarly situated in 1980, and who did intend to deny Reagan the nomination and deliver it to one of the moderates in hopes of securing the Vice Presidential nod. I have posted the historical evidence above that Bachmann’s candidacy cannot succeed in gaining her the nomination, especially in 2012. Finally, I have enjoyed a good laugh at her many gaffes.
There is not an attack in there. If you think any of that is an attack, you have no understanding of politics in a free society.
Ed Rollins’ statement, sanctioned by Bachmann, attacking Palin as non-serious-—while providing no proof of it, is closer to an attack, becasue of its failure to provide specific evidence.
“MB is in it to win”
She has no path to the nomination either practically or historically. She couldn’t even win a state wide race in her home state.
Do you seriously think that the GOP is going to nominate a candidate WHO HAS NOT EVEN RUN A SINGLE STATE WIDE CAMPAIGN BUT, AS THE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE, WILL HAVE TO RUN 50 STATE WIDE RACES AT THE SAME TIME AND WILL HAVE TO WIN MORE THAN HALF OF THEM?
Well, Wayne was a great conservative, and he was born in Iowa and so is MB, that's the point. Next joke on the 'sunday funnies' will be that she was confusing Wayne with Bonaparte, which I think is funny , Gacy not.
...drew international howls of laughter..
SNL, Leno and Letterman's laugh machines are just that. Nothing funny about it, it's just raw ridicule, and no one can escape that. As Coulter explains it, it's a Liberal mob reponse to something illogical. (I'm part way through it as we speak)
If you can laugh at her YOU you have a problem. I didn't laugh at the Tina 'my house from here' joke/ridicule either.
Bachmann has zero executive experience and zero percent chance of winning. She’d be torn apart by the MSM, Dems AND the Establishment GOP the minute she was other than useful to them.
“...favor the unannounced, and unlikely candidate, Palin.....”
LOLOLOLOL Where your white cane?
The primaries will determine that. We are entering a new age for the GOP. They no longer have enough money or clout to do to MB and Palin what they did to Pat Buchanan in favor of Dole.
Today defacto, the Tea Party is the GOP, we are in the process of kicking out Moderate/Liberals who have high jacked the party for too long. The kicking will be done by the likes of a MB, Palin
There's a first time for everything including the 2nd Congressman or the 1st Alaskan to be ever elected president.
I assume you are referring to Oedipus? This idea that there is an Oedipus complex where you would kill the father/ leader (Palin?) to marry the mother (Bachmann)and destroy the kingdom is silly and ridiculous. The most telling truth is that the women are showing more resolve than the men in the current conservative movement. The rare exception is Congressman Allen West, and I have a special appreciation for him because I live in his district.
We need strong, inspiring leaders in greater numbers. The fact that two of ours are conservative women needs to be celebrated and supported. We are still bearing the fruits of the 19th Amendment nearly 100 years out. Most women historically vote liberal and have tilted elections and power to some pretty disastrous liberal presidents.
Why you would marginalize and speak so negatively about Bachmann makes no sense to me. All we need is influence from her, Palin and a few other strong conservatives to pull a few women voters from the dark side to the right, and the Messiah will be defeated. Again, I say Michelle Bachmann will not be the nominee. Her chances and justification for being the vice president are growing. Who would you pick in a debate - Bachmann or Biden?
All I hear you commenting on is Vennes, Concord, and Gacy.
Minn's response is one of the best post I ever read on FR. I think you should be about ready to hang this baby up and don't come up with anymore foolishness.
“I think you should be about ready to hang this baby up and don’t come up with anymore foolishness.”
I haven’t come up with any “foolishness” yet. And I am not ready to “hang this baby up” (as you put it) until Sarah Palin takes the Oath of Office on January 20, 2013.
