The partnership is old news. It is still not official but it looks like Microsoft is looking at buying Nokia outright.

Microsoft is looking at buying Nokia outright.

Ain't gonna happen. I don't think Microsoft wants to risk losing all other phone partnerships, and later, all software partnerships with the hardware manufacturers.

But, it wouldn't be a bad idea for Microsoft to become a player in the full PC/phone experiences, which would include providing the hardware and software for everything they're involved in, a la Apple. In that case, Microsoft could easily become the first trillion dollar company.

If Microsoft doesn’t get their market share up, they aren’t going to have to worry about their phone partners.

At least with a Nokia purchase, they know they have THE major manufacturer making Windows phones. A few years ago, I would pay extra to have a Nokia phone and many people felt the same, they have the reputation of making great hardware. World wide, Nokia still has about a 1/3 share of the smart phone market. I don’t know how loyal they are though.

I’ve read rumors that Microsoft may pay 80-100 billion dollars for Nokia. I can’t picture that being a good idea.

An outright purchase would alienate a huge number of Nokia’s European market, and would result in a very bad deal immediately. The best Microsoft can do with Nokia is a partnership, like they already have.

their eccosystem model, aka a sucker trap, is exactly why consumers are NOT buying the wp7 phones.

if anyone wants such a cloud closes system, they already have an iphone.

wp7 is just an iphone wanabee tied to MS products.

the suits at windows are more clueless than obama.
