I agree: don’t drive drunk or stoned, don’t go on public assistance to subsidize your substance abuse. As to prositution, as long as they don’t do it in the road and frighten the horses... I believe that in Nevada prostitution, like gambling, is legal but confined to locales where it does not constitute a nuisance. Most of the ills associated with drug abuse are exacerbated by prohibition.

I’m a libertarian opposed to abortion. Libertarians are not opposed to laws that aim to protect people from the malicious acts of others, such as murder. I actually agree with the part of the Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade that enforcing an abortion ban intrudes on patient-physician confidentiality. I disagree that because a law is difficult to enforce it is therefore unconstitutional. Even today, abortion is only legal if it is premised on the most flimsy notion of the mother’s health. Any chance that giving birth might harm a woman’s emotional well being can be deemed by an abortion mill provider as justification, this is what advocates mean by protecting women’s health.

Interestingly, in the 19th Century the largest hospital in New York was a three story abortion mill that occupied a city block. The “doctor” was a woman abortionist who specialized in “complaints” of married women, many of whom were not, in fact, married. That she performed thousands of abortions a year was an open secret. Tightening of medical lisencing and medical ethics drove that kind of provider out of business, or at least underground, until the 1970’s.
