I remember them saying a drum solo blew everybody away.
I know Aerosmith and Rush have been around a long time, but...
Seriesly, I first saw Rush on their "Farewell To Kings" tour, and I've seen them more often than any other band, maybe 10 or 11 times over the years (3 times at 3 different venues in 2 weeks, back in 1981). Awesome band, and they still put on an amazing concert. And "the new guy" is one of the best drummers in music, period.
I think that the best thing about Rush is that while they take their music very seriously, the still love to have fun, and don't take themselves seriously at all. For example, Geddy Lee, the bass player, decided years ago that he was able to get better sound just using a rack system, and then going through the PA. The problem was when looking at the stage from the left side, Alex had these big guitar amp and cabinet stacks. Moving to center stage, you saw Neil's huge drum kit. Moving to the right, behind Geddy, there would have been a great big empty... So he started filling that space with unusual item.
For instance, during one tour, he had a couple of dryers (running during the show, and if you look closely, you'll see they're "miked" just like Alex's amplifier cabinets, and a functional snack vending machine - occasionally some of their crew would walk out on stage and grab a snack from it!
