Exactly my point. The first stories were that it was two Blackhawks (Pavehawks). Now it has been added that Chinooks were involved.
Some ‘confidential’ sources prove to be reliable but others don't so one can't rely on a single report.
Early reports claimed 40 troops involved while later claimed only 20 to 25. The actual numbers (so far) turn out to be 40 with 24 involved in the actual assault. The remaining were perimeter guards or supernumeraries.
Once all the info comes out, we will get the total picture but for now we are just getting various snippets which don't tell the entire story.
Much of what we are getting SEEMS contradictory but in essence only relates to various parts of the entire operation which is causing the confusion.
We are truly fortunate to be living at this time with instantaneous communications but unfortunate in that those communications often don't have ALL the details and we are left to speculate and doubt.
We often have to rely on previous unrelated to the event past knowledge and experience to understand the entire picture.
Agree. My email chain is saying there were over 40 troops involved. Com, Command and control, security and even a JAG. BTW if it was a 40 minute firefight (which I do not believe for a second) even F Troop could of mustered a unit to see what the noise was about. Where were the Pakis?
Supposedly no troops were injured in all of this. My question is how many were on the crashed helo? What happened to them?
My understanding (and it’s not much) is that the chopper had to be abandoned because of mechanical failure and was destroyed by us to prevent anything falling into enemy hands.
I read somewhere yesterday that a lab in Boston did the test with OBL’s dead sister’s DNA. If true, how many hours to fly a DNA sample to the US from Pakistan? And what is the quickest turnaround for a DNA test? And all this within 24 hours? Something’s fishy, and it’s not just OBL’s purported corpse.
But, how many were on it? What happened to those that were on it?
President Barack Obama and other administration officials are considering releasing a photo of Osama bin Laden’s corpse on Tuesday, according to a report.
That photo is a fake. Placed next to another common photo of him, the fact is obvious. Someone doctored a real headshot onto an OBL photo.
I’m not slamming you, just pointing out it’s an obvious fake. We should have a real photo soon.
Your other points are correct: DNA sample is trivial to obtain (swab a cheek, scoop some splatter), a good lab giving top priority can give fast results, and assuming a picture does show up soon as announced we’ll have that proof too.
Dumping the body is a fast, surefire way of eliminating the huge pile of problems keeping it would cause. Using the “bury in 24 hours” line, they make a host of problems go away; a perfunctory last rites gives plausible “we tried and didn’t know better”. This way, the only remaining problem is the ongoing whining; things get very expensive ($$$ and political) very fast otherwise. He’s dead, he’s gone, he’s shark chum, good riddance - that’s what matters, not satisfying the chronically unsatisfied. The “deathers” could stick their fingers in his cold dead gaping wounds and still be unconvinced. The offended want to be offended and will find something to get offended about.
The military did good. Methinks the Obama was given an offer he couldn’t refuse. Just because not everything lines up perfectly isn’t necessarily evidence of malice.
I have a hard time believing that we didn’t have a single casualty. A copter goes down and we have a 40 minute firefight against armed guards? Not knocking our military at all, but I would guess in planning the operation they would have figured there would be a good probability of casualties. Remember we initially heard things to make the story sound even better than the reality - OBL hid behind woman, fired shots, copter had mech failure etc.
That’s OK - passion of the moment I understand.
Did you happen to see a video of Benazir Bhutto being interviewed before she was assassinated. In this interview from 2007, she talks about the guy who murdered bin laden, in the past tense. She says it at the 2:15 mark of the interview. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1011338/benazir_bhutto_bin_laden_murdered/
On average, there would be about a 25% match between OBL and any half-siblings. The match between him and his sons would be about 50%. I read in another thread that one of his aunts died in the US and samples were collected from her and preserved; I have no idea on the truth of that. In any case, I believe there are enough OBL relatives around to collect samples from.
I see no evidence that the photo is a fake. I've seen many Photoshopped versions of it, pasting the head onto various other backgrounds, but the one I described has no sign of being shopped. Not that I really want to look at it all that closely (it is gruesome), but the features, even distorted by the bullet damage, closely match the pictures taken of the living OBL. I'm not just talking about the mouth, but about the eyebrows and hairline. Also, the skin discolorations on the lower part of the photo and blood in the mouth are consistent with a catastrophic injury having taken place.
Of course, I've seen some of the attempts to prove the picture was photoshopped. And I'm well aware that some people will not believe the evidence, even if the whole video of the raid is released (which I don't expect it to be).
The non-wound parts of the photo are a perfect match with the photo shown on http://www.kypost.com/dpps/news/science_tech/Bin-Laden-corpse-photo-is-a-fake,-other-scams-going-around_6311778
