The big thing will be if he can get something together for home heating. Making electricity is capital-intensive. Making Rossi's device power a car seems like a hell of a lot of engineering.

But people would pay good money for something that will heat their homes in the winter for negligible fuel costs (replacing a small nickel/hydrogen canister once a year). I don't know about you, but I spend more to heat my home in the winter than I spend on gasoline.

The engineering challenge is that the E-cat apparently produces only heat. You'll have to figure out the best way to turn that into useful power. However the latest iteration of the e-cats are very small, you wouldn't have much problem fitting them in a vehicle. Four of them on a desktop here -- each able to output 4.4 kW

If we can be in a scenario where E-cats handle home heating and electrical generation, then we'll have a hell of a lot of natural gas that can be used for vehicles. If E-cat can be used for powering ships and steam locomotives, then that frees up a hell of a lot of diesel for automotive use as well.

As always, this all presumes that E-cat is not a sophisticated con. If it's for-real, expect the Russians and Saudis to send agents to kill Rossi and destroy all his notes, because the E-cat would kill the economy of any nation that primarily relies on fossil fuel exports.

It would be disruptive indeed.

Not sure what security Rossi has taken, but would think he’s taken precautions to ensure the tech doesn’t die with him.

He has said this a cause that is worth “spending a life for” (don’t know what he meant by that)

BTW here’s a link to his patent application:

Interesting abstract. Doesn’t tell anything about how it works, but the bit that implies that the effect works at a temperature up to five thousand degrees C is quite intriguing in its implications

If you can make steam to heat a house, you are not too far away from making electricity. Small turbines are easy to design and manufacture and not terribly expensive, they are cheap enough to put in a car, every turbocharged engine has one.

The question is whether they can make steam, there have been claims similar to this one since the 90’s. The big difference is that they were heating water in a lab somewhere and nobody else could verify their success.

The real proof will be when these are in independent labs being run or preferably produced and tested by independent entities. I’m still concerned that the tests are being run by the inventor and the independent parties are only watching it.
