Heck of a warranty claim...

The warranty only covers manufacturing defects, but I hope they have a low deductible on the insurance.

I though that with impending disasters, the military got all planes in the air to fly to safer bases...wonder what happened here....

Is that a current JAF plane, or could it be one of those retired ones like you see parked in front of city halls and VFW posts?

That is a current/active plane ...it is a Japanese F-2, which is basically an F-16 that has been made significantly larger, and has indigenous Japanese avionics, including an AESA radar. Think of it as a larger advanced F-16.

China must be very happy. Particularly considering that Japan needed to get new equipment (most probably new-build F-15s, F-35s or Eurofighters) to replace their ageing F-4 Phantoms. Thus, damaged F-2s definitely make China happy.
