Yet there is one aspect to this, which can be seen clearly; it is this poster's intention to point it out, hoping it will be noticed.

Two weeks ago, Donald Trump was a caricature. Someone known for antics, and a single phrase..

That same Donald Trump in one single week, catapulted to national prominence by saying in so many words:

AMERICA FIRST.

We should put 35 percent tax on everything we import and have everyone put a 35 percent tax on everything we export. That way the whole world will be prosperous.

Or just somethings, some times, now and then. Politically. Depending, such that no one knows what prices will be from year to year and can not plan, invest, import, or export.

Yeah, that’s the ticket! Let’s revisit the 20’s and the 30’s! Let’s have German nationalists rise to power on a Germany First platform, and so fort.

Free trade is not the problem.

Government getting in the way of Free Trade is the problem.

Um, we're not practicing Free Trade in this country, and we haven't for many decades. For instance, along with numerous other flaws in both NAFTA and GATT, foreign tariffs on U.S. goods were not lowered at the same time or rate at which U.S. tariffs on foreign goods were.

As for the existence of tariffs in general, they are, IMHO, a valid facet of Free Trade only when they are minimally implemented as a protection against unjust foreign trade, for example the existence of Tyrannical foreign labor standards which can be reasonably argued to unfairly penalize the American worker.

One of the stated intents of the Constitution (via its Preamble) is to establish justice. Therefore, it seems reasonable that the ideal of Free Trade should be practiced with that in mind, and should guide all three branches of our federal government.
