I used to dream of owning one of the old WWII era bombers and flying around the world. Wow ... $3,000. I recently came into possession of my grandparent’s farm records. The earliest years I have records for, they made a couple of thousand per year. I guess a couple of years’ pay for a flight-worthy plane is about right.

He paid $75. The other guy buying them got sick of his bidding and told him, “Son, I’m gonna let you have this one if you will go away.” He only had $75.

Some vets of WWII USAAF made a few bucks buying the big birds, draining the fuel out of the tanks, selling the fuel and then selling the planes for refit or scrap.
