The case brought before the Appeals Court argued that D&D inhibited prison security, because "cooperative games can mimic the organization of gangs and lead to the actual development thereof."

Bullstalin. Earlier reports on this case had authorities saying that it was escapism and should not afford them relief from their imprisonment.

Prisons are A-OK with racist gangs and even Wahabist recruiting in prisons. Racial disharmony keeps the inmates hostile at one another rather than the guards and other staff.

I’m sorry, but that’s 4e, and therefore not D&D, but rather “WoW, the RPG”.

Heck, in my gaming group we still play The Fantasy Trip...heavily modified with material copied inspired from other RPGs.

From the decision:

"He further testified that fantasy role-playing games like D&D have “been found to promote competitive hostility, violence, and addictive escape behavior, which can compromise not only the inmate’s rehabilitation and effects of positive programming, but endanger the public and jeopardize the safety and security of the institution.”

A blast from the past (2002), from the Onion:

When You Are Ready To Have A Serious Conversation About Green Lantern, You Have My E-Mail Address

Even funnier if you read it with a Comic-Book-Guy voice.
