Personally, I advocate giving the condemned an injection of about 10 times the LD100 for their body weight of a barbiturate.

That's what sodium thiopental is. An absolutely massive overdose is used. While less than half a gram is used for anesthesia, and one gram has been routinely medically used to induce coma, they use five grams. Despite this, people still claim the condemned may have been awake.

My point is to give a dose of barbiturate sufficient that it kills the condemned with no margin of error, hence 10 times LD100, not give them a barbiturate to knock them out, then administer other drugs to kill them by suffocation. The "might not have been awake" critique is applicable only to the absurd procedure of sedation followed by a lethal drug administration of which to a conscious person would cause suffering.

That is also done, with sodium thiopental in that 5g dose. People still complain of course.

As you can see, the sodium thiopental dose alone is enough to kill a person in minutes. I guess the others are just to make sure.
