I would check your default settings on your “Default program”
Ping.
Try turning it off and back on, the printer/scanner.
Make sure it’s on the (Network) setting if wireless, I mess that up a lot myself.
I was able to scan 2 things on mine but I had to shut it down a couple of times in between. I saved the documents as TIF files in case I ever need them again.
I can’t give you any specific help, but I have several friends who have had sufficient problems installing XP-working peripherals onto a W-7 machine that they have retired the printers and scanners. Thrown them out, sold them, got rid of them. After hours and hours and hours of fruitless work. There are large numbers of printers (that are not that old) for which there simnply are no available drivers inside W-7. Prolly not what you want to hear. Barring a failure to find anything within normal factory sources, I think you may have to Google (or otherwise search) for user groups in which one or more members may have found workarounds. Eg; google “windows 7 hp3456 problem”.
Try this, navigate to the application that runs the scanner. Right click and select “Troubleshoot Compatibility”
I doubt Adobe Flash has anything to do with the problem.
Also, HP usually requires the software to be installed BEFORE the printer is connected to the computer.
I’m not a computer expert, and I just finished a 16 hour shift, so this about all can offer before passing out.
Go to Windows 7 forums
Sorry if this is inappropriate, Jim. Just trying to help.
What model HP? 309A? 7410? it’s important.
Secondly, Win 7 64 bit or 32 bit?
Getting the right drivers is KEY, and depending on the printer model # you must get the 32/64 bit version from HP.
AND!
I recommend the following:
(0) read item 11 below, then proceed if you feel like it.
(1) uninstall the driver and all supporting software.
(2) delete the printer from control panel
(3) reboot the PC
(4) Turn OFF all firewalls —> windows firewall, McAfee, erc. It DOES matter to the stupid HP Digital Imaging Monitor software upon install.
(5) Make CERTAIN you have the latest driver from HP for your version of Win 7 and your device.
(6) CLEAN install the software for the printer.
(7) add the printer from control panel if not already added.
(8) set it as the default.
(9) print a test page
(10) Try scanning FIRST by initiating the scan from the printer; then try using the scan software on the PC
(11) I have both an HP 7410 (love it) and a 309A Photosmart Premium (HATE IT!!!!) as all-in-one devices on Win7 64 and 32 bit machines. I have GIVEN UP trying to scan from the printers to the PC. Why? Because the HP software is JUNK. I put a memory card in the printer, scan everything I need onto the card, and then manipulate the images on the various PCs using local NON-HP software.
I just checked and it is listed as compatible - both for 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Windows 7.
Sorry, I put the version in the thread title but not the body.
It’s HP 7000a.
7500a, I meant.
Any scanner problems I had were always related to the TWAIN drivers.
It may be set to manual and stopped. Start it manually using the dialog in the left pane, then right click on the name and change the Start up type to automatic.
I’ll say this. the EASiEST way to scan images *IS* to put a memory card in the printer. Scan your images to the memory car. Stick the memory card into your PC. Edit the images locally.
IMHO, *ALL* the HP imaging software has terrible user interfaces AND seldom works unless you frequently re-install. NEVER count on it if you have a deadline.
I strongly recommend SNAGIT software by TechSmith. Here’s the link to a free 30 day trial — http://www.techsmith.com/snagit/default.asp?gclid=CPy__MP7vKYCFY5N2god4Wa9Jw
The network cable runs to the router which gives me printer on both pc's. But I couldn't get the scanner to work.
Ran the usb cable from the printer to the desktop pc - installed the scanner that way. So I only get the scanner to work with one computer but have the printer as default for both.
I think I had to use Vista drivers for the printer/scanner which I had to download from the Brother site.
Realize this is not HP but sounds like it may be a similar problem and the fix may work.
That’s actually good advice as well - make sure WIA is up and running.
I shut it down manually once in an effort to give more resources back to the CPU. Bad idea ;-)
I’m not in front of the PC right now but will check for that later. Good tip. Thanks.
