I’d pay up to $45 for a new windows 7 os, but only if I could transfer it to different computers.

No one wants a corporate standard desktop. They want ONE STANDARD for the whole OS, from Kernel to desktop. And until that changes, it will never be the “Year of Linux on the Desktop”.

There will never be a "Year of the Linux Desktop."

Nothing that I'm aware of is on the horizon that will be a Windows (or a Mac) killer. That is perfectly fine. I don't really care how many people adopt it as a platform.

I used to be President of a LUG.

That's pretty cool. Did you have an active LUG? I always enjoyed meeting the people at those.
