OMG-an overwhelming list-very depressing. In reality, most of them should be gone. So what if they get huge severance packages and years of unemployment compensation. The majority of them are unproductive and redundant anyway. At least there would be a light at the end of the tunnel and the payments to them would eventually end—right?

EPA. The states can handle the job without funding a federal agency.

Not even the DOD is sacred. Only the DOJ should be spared. Eliminate everything while cutting the DOD to half of it’s budget.

Well, January 2011, not November 2010. Why should anything change with Obama still in office? Power of the purse. The House can simply refuse to appropriate money for things. This can either induce Obama to sign GOP-sponsored legislation to get funding back, or just stop the government from doing things money wasn’t appropriated for.

Problem with eliminating the Dept. of Education first is one of, well, education. I can hear the Dem talking points now: they want to take away your education. You have to prove that it's a worthless bureaucracy, then get rid of it. In fact, you have to prove all of them are worthless before eliminating them.

How about we eliminate all those NOT mandated by the constitution? First, though, you need to define "promote the general welfare," else the rats will define it for you.

I'm guessing none of them - 0bama will wield the veto pen and the media will cast him as a hero. Were I to choose, however, Education, Labor, the EPA, HUD, Energy, and Homeland Security would be high on the list for the most savings. Understand that many of these functions will not be eliminated, but pushed down to the state level, and so savings at the federal level won't translate to overall savings. We might see state income taxes go up as federal income taxes go down.

The resistance from the de facto ruling class will be enormous, which is why I doubt it can be done immediately and most of it, for generations. This thing isn't going to be turned off like a switch, it's going to need to be (1) planned carefully, and (2) pushed along by a determined effort across administrations of both political denominations. The Democrats can do it if they can be freed from this idiot cohort of 70's radicals who truly do think they ought to rule the world. A bad enough 0bama defeat will enable that but it will be up to the Dems to accomplish it. And yes, not to rain on anyone's parade, but they're going to have to help. The strident, arrogant, and mindlessly destructive Left needs to be disempowered and relegated to its campus playpens. Their path leads to disaster, and we've gone down it far enough already to pay a dear price for many years to come.

I was just going by what the Constitution authorizes. If it's not in Art. 1 Section 8, then it needs to go.

That’s an uninformed suggestion. Both operate on a non-apprpriated fund getting only utilities and real estate from the base.

And there are plenty of young gi’s and sailors that need the lower costs to support their families.
