I hope and pray you’re right. But if Chile has this great expertise in mining, how did they manage to construct a mine that collapsed to the point it takes months to get the miners out? Was there an earthquake or a fault line? Has there ever been a similar situation elsewhere?
Their expertise built a mine that allowed all the miners to escape death after a catastrophic collapse and have a chance at survival and eventual rescue.
You need to get in contact with this wonderful Freeper (”Cuttnhorse”). He can answer all your questions. This was his post to me:

I am in the mining biddness and lived in Chile for 5-years, just south of Copiapo. Their technology as far as equipment goes is the same as ours...most of the big mining equipment manufacturers are well-represented in Chile and they have all the stuff we do.
Great country with a bright future if they can just resist the turn back to socialism.
He was heard in a bar prior to the collapse, “to my and mistress, may they never meet.”
This mining job - this is one I would not do.
{{{shudder}}}}
I would go dumpster-diving first.
“This mining job - this is one I would not do.”
That and do any construction job above 2 or 3 stories high...if even that high.
Oh, no - I am fine in the air. Former paratrooper, pilot, and all that.
But I ain’t crawlin’ in a hole in the ground.
You can own that. Like they say, the air force has never left one in the air - but the navy has left plenty at the bottom...
My money is on success in the rescue of the Chilean miners.
I happened on an interview of Chile’s President Pinera on The Charlie
Rose Show last week.
Pinera reviewed about how the people of Chile had pulled together and
gotten all the schools and most of the infrastructure pulled together
since the recent earthquake and tsunami.
Too bad the guy can’t run for President of the USA in 2012.

Awesome! Hopefully, all these guys will be rescued soon. The story will make a great movie. Perhaps the rights could be negotiated and the miners could make some good money off of this horrible experience.
Thanks.
You are most welcome.
Thank you. I hope it helps.

Frankly, I will never do so either.

LOL!!! LOL!!! LOL!!!
My brother was an officer in the Navy. I will throw that at him this week. He too will have a good laugh.
Thank you so much for your wonderful reply!
