Messina was not a founding member. He was brought in when Neil Young left. When Buffalo Springfield completely broke up, he and Richie Furay then became founding members of Poco.
I don’t care if Neil Young dropped off the face of the earth to never be seen again.
An Alien Autopsy
I couldn’t agree with you more. Neil was once my idol — on a Friday night I’d go to Woolworth department store and listen to After The Gold Rush in the music section and literally get high from his music — and now I see him on Youtube rant and rage about Bush and with everybody hanging on his words and nodding in sync (they get paid by him) and some Indian bass player that looks cool and it’s like he’s trying to relive “Ohio” again and his “facts” are messed up. What’s important is capturing that hippie-dippie protest vibe all over again. I think, “Neil be a real rebel and go against Hollywood.” At least read up on the issues. But, no, it’s too easy for him to follow the pack, conform to all the flattery and believe that you have another Richard Nixon (Bush) to keep you young. Sad that the “father of punk rock” believes in his own press. And, to make matters worse, his music sucks now too.
“I must be the only person who is just as interested that Leon Russell is going to play at this thing. Really enjoy his stuff.”
Saw him about 1978 at Universal Ampitheater doing “The Leon and Mary Russell Show” which was great, and about 1993 at the Coach House, opening for BB King.
Russell has had a long career. Would be interesting to see if he still has what it takes.
The 1993 (approx.) BB King Tour was to have ended his touring career, because he was 65 or something like that. We know he is still going, beyond 80 and with diabetes.
So these 60s guys are just kids, by comparison.
I was wrong. Messina was not brought in to replace Neil Young, but Bruce Palmer.
I still like Neil. I would much rather see Neil than Bob Dylan, Paul MaCartney, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones. Check this out from 1998.

And Jim Messina was with them just for their final phase
