The "diamond" reported by the Daily Mail turned out to be a big fluorite octahedron -- essentially worthless. The "discovery" was a hoax. The link I provided was busy last time I tried but it tells the basic story.
I recall the incident and there were follow-up stories at the time that gave more information on the hoax. I can't locate them at the moment but will post links if I find them.

I think the person was mentally unbalanced. I’ve looked at several follow-up articles and they all indicate something along those lines. Some say it was actually a resin casting of an octohedral crystal, not fluorite. Whatever it was it wasn’t a diamond.

you can make a nice necklace out of it (or a
