Is anyone on here an expert on dog allergies? I mean dogs with allergies not allergies to dogs.
I had the Book, but I could not look at it without getting all teary eyed.
From what I understand, The dogs would get depressed if they would not find any living rescues, day after day, only finding corpses.
Sometimes they would have to “stage” a live one, just to keep their spirits up.
Noble Creatures.
I remember...
Well, Joe...there ya go. You stole, errrrrr, borrowed :) my idea for my Saturday Night Doggie Thread.
And....a great thread you’ve put together....THANK YOU!!!!
I had an elderly lab with numerous allergies, some lifelong and some that developed as he aged. Learned a fair amount about it during those years.
What sort of problem is your dog having?
Honey, my German Shepherd was declared “incorigible” by our dermatologist after years and given up to another dermatologist (far away). Feel free to ask me. Oh, plus before me, my sister’s GS had bad allergies. That’s how I knew about the dermatologist.
I think alot of people are unaware of this. Unfortunately, and inexplicably, AKC does not show any pix of the artwork!

I have seen several vets and a dermatologist. She was tested and found to be allergic to a bunch of things but no one was able to show me what the weird weeds looked like so I could rid my yard of them.
I have bought every kind of special expensive dog food on the market, it doesn't seem to matter.
I gave her allergy shots for 2 years and it didn't help. She took Temerial P for over a year and it got where it didn't help anymore and the cortisone in it was making her retain fluid.
I recently switched her to 1/2 Zyrtec tab morning and evening, that and twice weekly baths seemed like it was keeping her comfortable. Until today, she was going crazy scooting her belly and rear end on the grass, or the rug.
I sprayed her red whelps with a lidocane spray and gave her 1/2 Benedryl and the poor thing fell asleep.
I have Dermolone for her ears and can control that most of the time. It is the stomach and private parts itching that is driving her crazy (and me too)/
Riley: The real 9/11 K9 hero

UPDATE: February 25, 2010 — It is with extreme sadness that I report that “Riley”, the brave SAR dog shown in this video from Ground Zero has passed, His trainer, partner and bud, Chris, reports that Riley had some medical issues, and that he passed on within a week.
“Riley” is the last surviving SAR dog who served with the Pennsylvania USAR Task Force 1 (PATF1) during the World Trade Center rescue and recovery effort. I shot the video posted here late morning on 09/13/01 while “Riley” was hoisted high above “the pit” to an area being searched by the team from PA.
So it sounds as if your vet or dermatologist is of the opinion that this is some form of contact dermatitis?
When she lies down or sits down, what is she coming into contact with most often? Outdoors, indoors? Carpet?
Does she have skin eruptions or rashes anywhere else, above and beyond her belly, genital region and occasionally ears?
My lab was very allergic to fleas, he’d get an ugly rash and his coat would start to fall out if he got just a few flea bites.
Her skin appears very red all over her body through her white hair but is only broken out on the areas I mentioned.
Are her paws and/or the back of her hind legs broken out like the problem areas you mention?
Does anything seem to provoke it, make it redden fairly quickly? You’re bathing her a lot, out of concern over allergens on her skin I suppose, but that could be drying her skin out. Wouldn’t explain the severe symptoms but might explain the ears.
What’s the name of the strange weed?
