Debate? You don’t slap a 13 month old baby. End of debate.

Like slapping a 13 month old would make the kid stop crying.

Good thing my mom wasn’t on that flight. She’s a sweet lady but the woman might have gotten a facefull of knuckles in addition to having the kid taken away from her.

The Goldman kid kicked the back of my chair all the way from Sint Maarten to Boston. I know it was the Goldman kid because that was the name on the basketball he hit me in the face with on the way down. “He’s only two” she said. I wonder what the little bastard is doing now?

If this mother slaps her 13 month old child in public what the hell does she do in private?

You don’t slap (or “pop”) a l3-month old baby. EVER.

Even on the hand when they are reaching for something hot or sharp? You don’t give a gentle pat and a “no!” to correct them?

We know what she does in private because the baby had a black eye.

Sometimes, a little discipline administered at the right time saves years of heartache later.

What most people are commenting on is the slapping; hardly anyone has commented on the fact that the baby kicked her. An action like that left uncorrected gives the kid a clear message that kicking is an effective way of getting his/her way.

When little, my son NEVER grabbed at items in stores, nor did he ever fuss about being put in the shopping cart. According to my husband, I had slapped his little hand the first time he tried reaching for anything. It only took once.

That’s the difference. When it comes to the childs safety ie. Running in the street, burns, or getting by a pool, a little pop on the butt is warranted. No for just a behavioral issue.

The child kicked his mother. That is a behavior that requires a pat and a “no!”.

It was a baby not a 6 year old.

So? You don’t want a toddler kicking anyone because he is upset. You wait until he’s six to correct him and his kindergarten and first grade teachers will hate you.

If you’d take a second and read the article it stated she hit/slapped the child across the face. Wtf is your beef?

Excuse me? What the fuck is my beef?

I don’t appreciate being talked to that way.

My problem is with people who hear one side of a story and make blanket statements like “you should never slap a baby”. The word “slap” is a poorly defined word. It can be anything from a gentle tap on the hand to a full backhanded blast.

All we know from the article is that there are conflicting stories about how and where the child was struck. We also know that paramedics checked the child and allowed the child to travel on with the parents afterwards.
