Oh I see.

Hence what they did to Scott Peterson out in Cali when he was a suspect in his wifes demise.

They said, the government cannot use GPS technology to track defendants.

No, that's not what they said.

They said, any evidence discovered or derived by the government from GPS tracking cannot be used in court.

I don’t want the damn gov’t attaching GPS systems to anybody’ vehicle without restrictions. I don’t care about this guy, but I don’t want them to be able to pull this crap on me.

One more reason not to buy a Government Motors car (OnStar). It can not only locate you but turn off your car remotely.

Why attach a tracker when most people carry a cell phone with a gps device installed. The FBI can track you very easily.

I hope that also requires a warrant.

He was probably supplying the judges.

tail suspects yes, attach a tracking device without a warrant no.

this is akin to the ruling that outlawed the use of infrared cameras to look into people’s houses without a warrant.

That’s my point. I think the judge was too picky, this isn’t a privacy issue since he wasn’t bugged, he was just tracked.

It actually does, and from what I hear from a friend, a hell of a lot of evidence to get a warrant.

Ruling that federal agents erred in attaching a satellite tracking device to a vehicle without a search warrant, a federal appeals court has reversed the life sentence of man accused of running a major Washington drug ring.
The judge doesn't have to live outside his gated community. Thanks Zakeet.

Just to make us all a little more paranoid, I read last year that in NYS, just above NYC, they DO use EZ Pass to issue speeding tickets. They know how far each toll gate is from the next and the speed limit in between. If you get to Toll gate B from A too soon, you will be issued a ticket by mail .. no doubt with timed photos.
