The Iver Johnson ad was touting the safety of their revolvers. The one in the ad was a hammerless model which could not be fired by a child, due to the weight of the trigger pull. They also pioneered the transfer bar on their hammer revolvers, so the gun would not fire when dropped or the hammer was struck, without the trigger being pulled. “Hammer the Hammer” was the ad copy.

The transfer bar is a common item in revolvers now, S&W added it in the mid 40’s and Ruger to it’s single action guns in the 70’s.

Boy does that bring back memories. On my way to Vietnam the stewardesses on Flying Tiger Airlines we’re wearing those orange hotpants. For 365 days I dreamed of seeing them again. But on the return flight they were wearing bell bottoms.

So all you have to do is turn the switch? Yes sometimes, not all the time, it is that easy. Then watch out!

A pic from their calendars, Rigid, that is.

And good ole Southwest Airlines and their fabulous stews. In the early days at least.

That’s kind of disturbing.

More than a little.
