I was trying to figure out what Kabsa was....:

Largest Kabsa earns place in Guinness

************************************EXCERPT*********************************

Prepared by 40 young Omani chefs, the Kabsa was prepared in a 4,000-mm wide and 1,200-mm deep utensil. This took 10 hours to cook the dish.
Everything is unique about this Kabsa, said visitors.
The first of its kind exhibition-cum-festival is the brainchild of Juma bin Mubarak al Araimi, CEO, Al Sha’am, an enterprising event management company which comes out with innovative and imaginative events each year.
Al Araimi said a combination of 4,000 kg each of rice and chicken, 2,000 litres of cooking oil, around 100 kg each of salt, spices and nuts and 1,000 kg vegetables were used to prepare this world’s largest Kabsa.

*************************************snip****************************************

The event was conceived to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the reign of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, and that explains why the organisers decided to cook the biggest chicken Kabsa dish in the world as a new record in the Guinness Book of World Records.

From the Wikipedia:

Kabsa

***********************************EXCERPT************************************

Kabsa (Arabic: كبسة‎) is a family of rice dishes that are served mostly in Saudi Arabia — where it is commonly regarded as a national dish — and the other Arab states of the Persian Gulf. Kabsa, though, is believed to be indigenous to Yemen.

Not to be confused with kielbasa :

For years I’ve driven past a sign on the Massachusetts Turnpike that says, “Chicopee Provision: Home of the World’s Largest Kielbasa.” I’ve always wanted to stop and take a look, but I never have.

It’s just as well I haven’t stopped because, despite what the sign might lead one to believe, the world’s largest kielbasa is not in residence. It’s a seasonal creation, made fresh each summer for the World Kielbasa Festival in Chicopee, a four-day tribute to the spicy Polish sausage that draws thousands of revelers to the parking lot behind the Fairfield Mall in Chicopee.

The Dhofar area is where Salalah is. It is on the beach at the foot of some mountains. The area is very fertile and green and there are huge farms and tropical gardens fed with water from the mountains. Once a year, there is the hareef(sp?) which is the nearest thing to the misty conditions of the Garden of Eden described in Genesis that I can think of. The mist/fog is so thick that you can literally see it inside your car between you and the dashboard. 20 miles north, just over the mountains, it is a bone dry desert.
