In a couple of days, I’ll be heading for the annual Independence Day celebration at my friend’s lake place.
He lives on the shallow end of the lake, so he needs about 130 feet of dock to launch the boats and water toys for all involved.
No one, under the age of 10, is allowed on the dock without a PFD.
No exceptions.
It works well for us, we’ve never lost a child. It may be a bit anal, but, consider the alternative.
Aside from having buoyancy distributed so as to rotate an unconscious person face-up so he/she can breathe with their head out of the water, no...
Below the dam can be awfully dangerous too. A few years ago a Hmong family was fishing BELOW! the dam on the Mississippi near Interstate-90. They got to close to the dam, and their boat got caught in the roiling waters. When some other boat tried to rescue them, they tied the rescue line to the wrong end. The boat with the Hmong family went straight down, and the family of five or six people were all drowned. They didn't recover the bodies for days and weeks. Anywhere near a dam is dangerous.
