I was surprised the first time I drove up through W. Va.
A lot of industry , esp. around Charleston. I’m sure in no small part due to Byrd.
There is a chemical plant just West of Charleston that is a sister of the plant in Bhopal , India.
I get out of that area as fast as I can when driving that way.
Well, his term would have expired in 2012. So, I suppose the governor, Joe Manchin who is a Demorat, will appoint someone - another Demorat obviously. This person will have two years to serve and figure out how to game the system so to perpetuate his/her position as senator I am sure....
Where’d you get that picture? It’s barely daylight and they’re already holding his funeral?!!?
He was one of a very few Senators who would openly talk religion from the chamber. I recall an Easter speech he gave, I think just after his wife died, and IMO, it was as good as many a sermon. Below is a link to a different speech ...
Byrd speech on school prayer - April 2006
I have said it before, and I will say it again: I do not agree with many of the decisions that have come from the courts concerning prayer in school or prohibiting the display of religious items in public places. I believe that, in ruling after ruling, U.S. courts led by the Supreme Court have been moving closer and closer to prohibiting the free exercise of religion in America. It chills my soul.

Hey,who just said where the white women at?
Oops. I mis-spelled “Senator” as “Klansman.”
Sheets was a product of him times, but so was Strom Thurmond, and the press obsessed on the segregationist views he held as a Democrat.
That should be an economic boon for West Virginia!
Senator Byrd joins his hound dog Billie. RIP
Nope: since his death occurred before July 3, the appointee will only serve until January, having possibly been replaced in an election this fall. Byrd actually did the country a favor crapping out before July 3 as the person the governor appoints won’t serve until 2012 had Byrd waited until after July 3 to begin his slow burn in Hell.
The title is perfect.
need more coffee!!!!
Yes, but he will be voting in November.
Spell check wouldn't have helped in this case.
LOL, I know Yahoo didnt post that title.
You mean there are some that aren't?
I think they have been voting for him for quite some time now. He didn’t come in to vote for the healthcare travesty. They claimed they went to him and got his vote. I think some Republican in Congress should introduce a bill that would force retirement for congressmen and senators at 75. Thats being very generous. Its just wrong to let these guys continue to make our laws and dictate how we live when they are in there till they are brain dead. I know some of them are perfectly capable at 75 but thats enough time for anyone to be on the job. After that the mind starts to go.
Byron York reported on Bill Bennett this morning that because Byrd died before July 3, the governor will not appoint a successor; the state requires a special election be held to fill the seat.
It gets old to say it, but can you just imagine the vitriol this man would have faced from the MSM had he been a Republican and not a Democrat? His life as a Klansman would have been enough to hound him from office.
Liberals are wicked hypocrites.
