Get a high power GMRS and a CB with a good groundplane antenna and 60’ mast.

Don’t put up the mast until you need it though.

At night with a 100 watt linear that CB can get out 4,000 - 6000 miles. (and they are cheap)

Yep, the ol’ Lead Enema is a great way to communicate with your local tyrant.

The true answer is “We don’t.” And this is what the government is planning on.

Even with a CB radio you won’t know who you’re talking to. If someone on the CB told you they needed help and wanted to come to your home would you give out directions? Even if you could verify who you’re talking to the “enemy” would hear your broadcast.

“But eventually batteries won’t hold a charge”

.
The solution to that problem is simple: Desulphators.
They can be had on Ebay for about $35.

We have Sat phones. Make sure to construct a decent Faraday cage as well, and stockpile gas.

****************************************************
The one and only sat phone company went bankrupt years ago , the US gov’t bought it to keep their military communications working... Obama is listening... guaranteed.

Do you have t obe registered with the FCC to be a ham operator ? Yes ... but they've made it rather simple to do compared to what I had to go through 25 years ago. But getting just the "first stage" gets you on 2 meters which will probably be the "local" best band to use.
