I grew up in West Whittier, not far from Bellflower. We liked to shop at Fedco, a membership discount store, sort of like Costco or Sam’s Club, located in Dutch Village, a shopping center at Woodruff and South in Lakewood. In those days, there was no 605 freeway, so it took a long time to get there from Whittier.
Dutch Village, which actually looked like a Dutch village, was torn down several years ago and replaced with strip malls.
My family is from California. My uncle lived in Whittier worked for the S. Edison and was electrocuted by a hot wire.
