I had considered getting an Oppo BDP-83 player but the extremely steep cost (they wanted US$499 for one even from Amazon.com!) made me drop the idea. That's why I have a Sony BDP-S370
Blu-ray player--and I love it because thanks to
Bravia Sync it automatically turns on and controls my Sony KDL-40EX500 40" flat panel at the same time.

I love the Oppo but fortunately I got it for free. The Sony is a very good player, though. Funny about your comment re: “Bravia Sync.” Just goes to show that one man’s feast is another’s famine: I hate the sync feature, which is available with my PS3 and LG plasma!

I agree.......movies are now being made as a vehicle for the technology rather than the other way around. The result is a lot of vacuous special effects BS with very little of quality or substance.
Avatar is a prime example.
