You can mess up yer heart for good with the cocaine you take in your youth. Keith Richards seem immune but others that hung with him destroyed themselves with drugs such as Mick Taylor and Gram Parsons.

Jimmy Miller too who produced the Stones who was half brother of Judith Miller the NY Times reporter who is actually kind of conservative. Their father was Bill Miller a NY and Las Vegas niteclub owner and impresario. Connected guy, Jewish btw.

Sad to hear of Alex Chilton's passing. He was indeed a great inspiration to a group of artists who themselves have gone on to inspire.
We have a homemade “Beach CD” of about a dozen BoxTops’ songs that are classic 70’s bubblegum Blue-Eyed soul summertime music. Fun to play loud, outside at the Beach or by the Pool, with a cool beverage in hand ;-).

On a side note, its cool to see a few fellow Mats’ fans on the Free Republic.

You betcha! There's more than a few of us here. Over the years I've had some great exchanges with other 'Mats fans on FReep, trading memories of shows across the country.

I sure miss them, but in a way I'm glad they haven't done a reunion show. I doubt they could recapture the energy of their 80s shows, when they were a bunch of boozed-up unknowns out to kick everyone's a**es. The last time I saw then, in Lousiville in 1990, they had already started falling apart. It was sad.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

His 1970s band Big Star has been way overrated by the Rolling Stone (both albums in the top 100, some ridiculous BS like that), but some nice pop came out of that guy. Condolences.
