It depends. After all tribes used them for centuries. Now people here want them. If they get them where they aren't showing in the workplace & can be covered so not to offend people (which is what I think the major problem with most of the anti tattoo crowd) then I don't see the big problem. I am not talking about the people who go all out & cover their whole body like tigers. Even I think that is too much.
Society has become sharply debased and more coarse over the past several decades and this is reflected in, art, music, personal behavior and life choices.
You are right. But I don't know how it is going to change back to the 50's or even earlier. I try to dress my daughter more modestly then most 10 yr olds, I limit TV & MTV isn't allowed in our house. I home school. I don't do sleepovers & we all watch our junk food intake. We try to help people in need & we rescue horses. Most of all we treat others like we would have them treat us.

Well, like my brilliant uncle always said, you cant tell a book by its cover, but if I dont like the cover, I wont read the book.Well Duh! Maybe some girls (or guys) don't like your cover & won't bother with you! Or maybe they don't like your art ( I recall you said you were an artist?) & will say he stinks I wouldn't want to be friends with him. Oh please stop the bs. It can happen with or without tattoos. If people are so shallow to base their opinions on your looks or your art etc then who would want to be friends with them? And your brilliant uncle wasn't so brilliant ...It is don't judge a book by it's cover! You two sure know an awful lot of brilliant, famous & mega people. Hmm somehow I am not impressed & am glad I live my own life which is much simpler.

And a bit more reflection ... self-absorption and self-confidence are entirely unrelated. Someone can be wholly, destructively self-absorbed (say, an anorexic) and completely lacking in self confidence. Someone can be totally self-absorbed and have delusions of grandeur in their self-confidence (say, Barack Obama).
Folks with tattoos are self-absorbed in that they assume people give a crap about whether they're rebels or hip or unconventional. And I am self-absorbed in that I assume that YOU, dear reader, give a crap about my opinion on this! ;^)
A wise old man who was a character in a John Steinbeck novel (I forget which one) kindly told a painfully shy, self-conscious teenage girl: "You wouldn't worry nearly so much about what other people thought about you if you knew how little they thought about you."

Like you’re assuming that people give a crap about your opinion?
Some people have tats for attention.
Some people play armchair psychologist on internet forums with lengthy, pointless, judgmental, inaccurate screeds about people with tats for attention.
Just because you aren’t wearing your cry for attention, doesn’t mean you aren’t in the same category you’re condemning.

Lovely.
Actually, my uncle was quite brilliant, thank you. A successful architect whose five beautiful daughters were raised to respect themselves. Not a tat among 'em. They're also successful in their fields, artists and published writers, all.
Their self-esteem comes from what they do, as they were raised.
You're right. Tattoos, faster than any other red flag, do portray you as "simple."

Aren't you witty! I would rather be a simple person then a cheerleader for somebody else. And who knows who your Uncle was...You could be a liar for all I know & perhaps you are. I really don't care about you, your uncle or your family. And how do YOU know they don't have any tats?
They could hide them from their dolt of an uncle who has to judge them. I laugh when people like you say these things. How do you know? Did you look over their entire body? Be real, my parents didn't know I had one for years. My what a braggart you are. Everything is just so wonderful with your family. Hmmm back a few posts ago I remember something different. As I told your friend ignore me as I will ignore you. I never cared for the cheerleader crowd or for puppets.
