There’s a simple reason to put a bot on a router. It controls all the data coming and going from the computer.

It would allow all data to be filtered through a third party and with the right kind of tricks, even secure connections could be spoofed and intercepted. There have been some hacks that have allowed criminals to piggyback on a legitimate online banking transaction and make unauthorized transactions.
