ShadowAce, others, greets. i'm Lepht, the author of the article. i just wanted to thank y'all for reading and discussing, and to reply to a few things. Little Pig: you're right, it is mostly gimmick. the RFID is entirely so, but the Nd-60 nodes do have a proper purpose, and are dependent on my body to do their work (viz. they are augmentations rather than just implanted devices). the haptic compass i'm working on will be less... pointless. you're also right to doubt my legitimacy; you can see me inserting a node on YouTube, and documenting stuff on my blog, but that's all the evidence i can give so far. requests welcome to come find my ass in RL and demo.
Jack Hydrazine, John.Galt2012, no-s - correct. i can't even go near an MRI room; i've got a meditag that tells people that, but anything with a high enough Gauss will rip the nodes right out of my fingertips. comes with the territory... Ernest_at_the_Beach - aw, c'mon. Celerity - you want Steve Haworth, or i've got a FAQ somewhere with a list of node suppliers. i have transdermals myself, but they're made of titanium (hence non-conductive) and not close enough to nerve clusters. it's fingertips or nothing, i'm pretty sure. the sensations are completely worth it. i might forget to come back here and check for replies, in which case y'all are welcome to come find me on my
awful blog or email me at @ lepht trioptimum.com. any question is a good question. peace L

A radio, for instance, gives off a field thats bigger than the device itself. So do power supplies and wires in the walls. The implants pick up on the fields, and because theyre magnets, they fizz with gentle electricity, telling you this hard drive is currently active, that one is turned off, theres the main line in the wall. Holding a mobile phone, you can feel the signals it sends and receives. You know its ringing before it starts to play any sounds, and when you answer it, you stick the touchscreen stylus to the back of your hand to hold it, then to your finger to type. I's a hearin aid - nothing more - tuned to a different sound.

If you are golden, most likely you've gotten the Protocol Droid pack by mistake.
I'd love some tech upgrades. Hearing, sight, memory backup, communications gear, increased reaction times and extra strength.
I'm not exactly interested in doing a Beta program out of some Scot's garage though...
