I like the motto of the EODs.
Marines have their Semper Fi,
The EOD motto is “We only screw up once”
Thanks for everyone who wrote. You guys and gals are the best
Its a good watch.
Im curious what you (or anyone else, subsequently) thought.
I watched it last night and had two major criticisms:
1. There were so many technical errors that it was breath taking. I actually kept thinking about how sorry I felt for the technical advisor.
They NEVER used the bomb bots? Whats the point of donning that 100 lb blast suit when youre up against a howitzer shell (or six)?
The scene where they were confronted with the sniper from the block house, Im pretty sure that was a Barrett .50 and it wouldnt have jammed from some blood on the casings, and it would have blown right through that house. Not to mention, how likely is it that 4 actual al Q SNIPERS would be in one place at the same time? How many were there in theater the entire time? Everyone I spoke to said spray and pray was the general order with very few exceptions. Also, how proficient would and EOD with previous intel experience be with the Barrett?
Why would they go ahead and try to secure the bomb factory on their own? Three guys trained in EOD? They wouldnt wait for infantry/M.P.?
I quit watching at the point where theyd been called to do a post detonation examination
in the middle of the night, in an unsecured area, still loaded with injured and afire
and then they decided to wander off and exact some justice.
2. My take was that the soldiers were portrayed as less than intelligent people with substance abuse problems, rage disorders, and psychopathic tendencies. This wasnt anywhere near as bad as it usually is, but it still seemed off to me.
Great movie.
There were parts of the movie that irked me and my boss, who is a Marine. He also had issues with the Sniper part and the way the EOD guys would wander about alone.
I liked it, but it wasnt the best movie I have ever seen.
I agree with your review.
I just watched it, and I thought it sucked. While I was happy that it wasn’t ladened down with anti-Bush/anti-war propaganda, the situations these guys were protrayed in was unrealistic. If a war movie doesn’t have a sense of realism to me, then I’m not impressed.
I was continually asking myself questions like, “Who are these guys leader?” “Why are they going out alone?” “They are rescuing a British spec op team?” “Why are only three EOD people trying to clear a factory?”
Why doesn’t Hollywood do real stories like “Blackhawk Down”? The truth is always better then fiction.
