I tried that one, too..., until the novelty wore off... LOL...

But, there are tons of other apps that are absolutely wonderful to have... and this new user of the iPhone will soon be wondering how he ever got along without it... :-)

Dragon Search - [free] Uses excellent voice recognition and searches google, youtube, wikipedia, iTunes, Twitter, etc... Fast way to find things, and works better than you'd expect.

CardStar - [free] Let's you enter in your membership cards (Gym, Supermarkets, Book Stores, etc) and it displays the barcode for scanning so you can get rid of all those cards in your wallet. (Works on most scanners... when it doesn't, you have the number right there)

DirecTV -[free] (If you have directv) - Let's you set your DVR to record instantly from anywhere, even choosing priority and which receiver in your house records it.

RedLaser -[not free... 1.99 or 2.99 I think] Scans barcodes and price compares items. Good for checking prices in a store if you think the price is too high.

He’ll find it to be an amazing thing..., to FReep on the iPhone, since it has a full browser on it (i.e., “Safari”).

And they keyboards is great to use, too... absolutely wonderful... being a software and “touch” keyboard.

“Shazam”, it’s like a ‘name that tune’ app for both the iphone and droid. You start the app while a song is playing, and it will tell you the artist, album, etc...

Very cool.

PLEASE — Everyone who is posting your favorite iPhone apps — please post your monthly bill as well and I will decide whether I want to get one. Looks like the very minimum ATT charge is around $70 plus fees and taxes, possibly including a per megabyte data charge.

"WABC radio" so you can listen to Rush, Hannity, and Levin one after the other and it's free. I would be lost without my iPhone.

You can use the Iphone with Wifi in your home or anywhere which may cut down on your data rate. Most get the unlimited though.

I have the Verizon Droid because Verizon’s system is better where I live. I do have an Ipod touch which is similar. Google apps are better on the Droid and the sound quality of the Droid is much better. The android phones will soon have as many apps as the I-Phone. I like them both but the design of the I-Phone is beautiful.

Star Walk - Shows you a real time image of the stars and planets depending on the orientation of the phone.

ISS Visibility - See the space station as it orbits by your location.

Carpenter - MaxInjury - Shazam good too.

I don’t have my own iPhone and you are looking at reason #1 why my dear wife hesitates letting me borrow hers.

LOL

I've only bought I think one app. pUniverse. Great for night sky watching. Point the phone at a star in the sky, and it tells you what you're looking at.

Free apps: MyGov. A great way to track Congress, congresscritters, bills etc. The Constitution, Federalist Papers, Thomas Paine's "Common Sense". iHandy Level is surprisingly accurate. Weather Channel app (the free one). Flashlight. ESPN Score Center. AOL Radio, so I can catch Rush, Glen and the rest while I'm on the run. Google Earth is fantastic. Trapster, for finding speed and other LEO traffic traps in your area. Dictionary, Wikipedia, Facebook. Fox Business you can watch live from 6~9am and again from 12~1PM. WebMD. Bloomberg and Forbes. Dropped WSJ when they started to require "registration" for basic, and pay for premium. Their call of course. Mine was to delete the app.

Those are the ones I keep. I have others I've downloaded and delete, or only rarely access.

Keep checking the free section often. Sometimes a pay app will show up free for a while. 1Password is one of those. It will create an encrypted store for passwords.

The purpose of Free Republic is to be read on the iPhone when wandering around aimlessly in stores and so on... :-)

I do that when the little crazy woman drags me off to stores with her. 'Okay honey, you go off and look for whatever it is your looking for. I'll just hang out here and FReep.'

Monthly bill is fixed on data. It's $30 extra a month on top of whatever your voice plan is. Apple insisted on it. Verzion balked, AT&T didn't. Texting is a different story. I spend an extra $5 for 200 messages a month. It beats the higher charges per message. Now youngsters might *itch about only 200 messages, but for me it's fine. I mean I still have e-mail which is my home Comcast e-mail account that I access via the phone, but not everyone I might text mobile, can access e-mail with their device, so texting has its place.

So on top of my regular voice plan, 450 minutes, unlimited nights/weekends and free mobile to mobile anytime, plus rollover minutes, I pay around $80/month.

Believe it or not, Microsoft has an iPhone app out: Bing.

And you can speak a search term. I must admit that's handy. Even does maps.
