I have tried the drum. It works fine except it does not feed High Brass. I havent investigated why yet.

I suggest using firecrackers instead.

Good choice, you already have your pistol and the AR-15 is perfect for a woman.

The AR will allow you to return rifle fire or pistol fire from outside your home and very importantly, it’s 30-40 rounds and no recoil enables you to rapidly engage multiple targets.

Even a person alone that is laying out 30 accurate rounds in a short period with quick 3or4 second magazine changes, will discourage a group of opportunists.

Anything by Heym or Kreighoff chambered in a round with a Taylor KOV of 70 or better.

Get one chambered for 5.56 vice .223, there is a difference. Although the rounds are externally the same, the 5.56mm is a hotter round which might cause a rifle chambered for .223 to fail.

Can you share your source for this information ?

BTW, what handgun do you own, and do you live alone? I ask that second question because choice of weapon may be affected by whether you’re likely to be the only person home when something bad goes down.

>>>12 gauge shotgun, 00 buck
I second the motion. Excellent choice for her.

Probably not a good choice for some one in their sixties. The .410 or .20 gauge may be a better fit.

I would go for a pump because the unmistakable noise alone will likely cause a home invader to be in a hurry to get out of dodge if only to change his undies.

I heard Dan Rather say that very thing . It was a crock even back then . Maybe just a recording with verses of dobermans and a chorus of 870s racking ./sarc

find yourself a remington 870 home defense HD model pump shotgun in 20 ga.

It should have a capacity of about 5-6 shots.

Most of these models come with an 18-inch barrel.

You can usually find one at a well stocked gunstore for around $350.

Id also sign up for an NRA certified training course, or get some instruction from a local self defense instructor or a police officer you can trust.

My mother..for instance, has a 20 ga mossberg that I cut the barrel off to 18.5 inches. She and my father keep that around as their main home defense gun. She has a 22 caliber smith and wesson Kit Gun loaded with CCI stings (6 shot 3 inch stainless J frame revolver) while my dad has a J frame chief’s special snubby which he carries everywhere. In addition he has his Colt Gold Cup 45 auto and my 357 smith and wesson K frame revolver that is loaded with 38 special Cor Bon ammo.

Sometimes it’s a crock. Sometimes it isn’t. I’ve actually done it. That chck-chck sound at least discouraged one scumbag from trying to break down my door back when I lived in a pretty bad neighborhood...

Stay with the AR-15. Get one with 4-rail fore-end. Get two accessories; a tactical flashlight and a forward pistol grip. The forward grip will allow you to hold the rifle in a natural "fighting stance". The light aids in target ID and can blind/disorient a threat. The Surefire G2 or Nitrolon lights are great value. Jungle clip two 30 round magazines, and you can go hunt zombies all night.

I know it’s all in good fun, but geez cut wintertime some slack here.

He forgot the l.

Check out the incoherent posts from losers on left wing or MSM sites. They can’t spell anything right, even with 9 chances. They couldn’t spell rifle right if you gave them 12 chances with one pointed at their heads. And these are Dem voters.

wintertime:

You came to the right place to ask for advice. Hope you got it.

For a Lady I would go with a handgun-rifle combo Taurus Judge in 410+45 and some type of 45 lever gun for the rifle that way you can use the 45 ammo for both the handgun and the rifle plenty of knockdown power with both and the Judge will handle the 410 shot shell in any shot size from OO to bird-shot or the 45 LC very effective in close quarter’s.
I love the old 45 long colt it has been around a long time and will be around a lot longer I have used all the other types over the year’s 357mag 44mag 327mag 38 22 in all types and model’s of guns and prefer to carry for personal protection the old tried and true 45 long colt.
The 45 lc has lots of bang and lots of power but is low on recoil I think that is what you are looking for something that won’t kick to bad. the AR is a good choice but is also hi maintenance look at that also can you take it down and put it back together with an AR that’s done a lot !

They make reduced recoil 12 gauge buckshot however, so theres no need to split the difference. A .410 bore is enough power for defense and any beginner can master its recoil.

Hmm, that Kel-Tec sure does look interesting! Agree 100% on the gas piston points. How does it compare to the CMMG gas piston M4?

Well, you get about 80% of the accuracy (meaning I can get 2.5" groups at 100 yards with PMC FMJ, and 1.5" groups at 100 yards with handloads) for about 30% of the price, so...

If you're not looking for a target competition rifle, and want the functionality of an AR-15 in something about half the weight, that folds, and doesn't scream "I HAVE AN EVIL BLACK RIFLE" - and want to save $800 or more - then the Kel Tec SU-16 platform is a great option.

I carried an M-16 too long as well...;) All I know is that my Kel Tec SU-16 is a LOT cleaner in the chamber, cycles more reliably, and weighs half as much as AR-15s, which for my aging body is a good thing!

Not to mention the cost savings ($600+) would buy a lot of ammunition and a dozen PMAGs...

The only reason the current M-16 configuration won over Stoner’s gas piston design was cost; the military wanted something cheaper (over Stoner’s recommendations). You can get gas-piston conversions for your AR-15 platform, and it’s highly recommended if you want something even more reliable and easier to clean (less carbon build up).

It is a sweet rifle! I’ve run a magazine through one (don’t own one - yet) and it was amazing. Trigger is as good as any normal configuration, not at ALL like a bullpup. And the forward ejection worked very well...

Reviews are coming in highly favorably for that rifle, and I think in another year we’ll see that it is - yet again - another great Kel Tec design. I really wish they’d offer it in 5.56mm! But as-is, it’s a beast of weapon, very fast to swing (90% of the weight is between your shoulder and trigger finger), and VERY compact.
