agree with that 100% no obedience to handler equals a dangerous animal trained to attack...
Hmmm...You respond to burglary calls in street clothes?....I think the last thing I'd worry about is a dog.
1. The officer bitten was a female officer.
2. We don't know how little she may have outweighed the dog.
3. I used to watch the TV show “Cops.” In all of the years I watched, EVERY K9 we saw in action was only about two thirds trained. And/or not properly handled.
4. the dog should NEVER have attacked a uniformed officer.
5. We don't know if the officer bitten was in uniform, or if she was known to be present by the handler.
6. If she was not in uniform, and not known to be present, the dog is less at fault for biting.
7. We don't know the extent of the wound (savageness of the bite). It could have been anything from barely broken skin, to broken bones/serious bleeding.
8. The dog should have IMMEDIATELY released, when ordered by the handler.
The handler had only had the dog a little while. The story makes it seem that the dog was new, and inexperienced. IF the handler was also inexperienced, therein lies the crux of the problem.
9. If the handler was experienced, he could/should have tapped the dog on the snout with his baton. If that didn't work, then tapped a lot harder at the base of the skull.
10. We don't know, maybe he left his baton in the car.
11. We don't know the seriousness of the incident. The dog bit a (presumably uniformed) officer; and would not release on command. So, it MIGHT have been a training/discipline issue, OR it could have been a dog who had gone berserk. We don't know.
12. We DO know that dogs smaller than this have maimed and killed people.
This was a poorly written piece. It lacks the information necessary to attach any blame to the victim/shooter. I, for one, do not blame her, or call her a thug and coward. Having been on the trainer/handler end of the leash, an aggression trained dog MUST be under complete control. Otherwise, it's like a gun that might go off at any random time.

Imagine yourself (maybe knocked to the ground) with a raging out of control animal trying to chew your arm off. You have a gun in your hand. What would you do?

Geez, cops don’t even like their own dogs.
I thought they were like full blown officers and stuff.
(on a side note this happened about 3 blocks from where I grew up)
