Still doesn't explain upon what basis you can call yourself a Christian? A faith based upon allegory is only an allegorical faith, imagine that.
Lol. you are just so cute. My degree is not the “traditons of men” but that is neither here nor there. It doesn’t affect my faith one way or the other, I only mentioned it to show that I have academic as well as personal knowledge. My spiritual knowledge comes only from the Holy Ghost.
And if you had read my previous post, you would see that gods in PS 82 as well as when Christ quotes that are not “gods” at all. They refer to the Judges of Israel.
However, I am familiar with the misinterpretations that the LDS use to support their blasphemous theology.
The Children of God (by adoption not birth) are NOT and NEVER will be ‘gods’. Your theology is of the “traditions of men” and far from God.
Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
This verse above perfectly describes the LDS mindset. They claim to be Christians, yet have ABSOLUTELY no idea who Jesus really is. They know ABOUT Him, but they do not KNOW Him. Their works are designed to gain glory for themselves, whereas Christians strive only for the glory of God.
I know this is difficult for you to understand, given the brainwashing you have been subject to, but please pray to truly understand the Word of God (Bible) and quit listening to the LDS leaders.
Luke 3:38 says that Jesus is descended from a character you say is part of an allegory. That means one of the following is true:
1. Both Genesis and Luke are histories inspired by the Holy Spirit.
2. Genesis is an allegory, and Luke is a history, but not one inspired by the always-truthful Holy Spirit. As such, pretty much everything in it would be in doubt.
3. Both of them are fairy stories for the Bronze Age set.
Note that "the Holy Spirit inspired Luke to include a non-fact in a section clearly intended to be factual" is not on the list, nor should it be.
So, which is it?
Is it not written; in MORMON Scripture; that those who do NOT keep the Eternal Covenant found in D&C 132 are DAMNED?

Why, yes it is. Which means only the FLDS and other polygamous groups are headed for the Celestial Kingdom, according to Mormon theology.
D&C 132 (which has NEVER been recinded):
1 Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you my servant Joseph, that inasmuch as you have inquired of my hand to know and understand wherein I, the Lord, justified my servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as also Moses, David and Solomon, my servants, as touching the principle and doctrine of their having many wives and concubines
2 Behold, and lo, I am the Lord thy God, and will answer thee as touching this matter.
3 Therefore, aprepare thy heart to receive and bobey the instructions which I am about to give unto you; for all those who have this law revealed unto them must obey the same.
4 For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting acovenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye bdamned; for no one can creject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.
The ones we love can frustrate us the most! ;^(

LOL. Tell me about it.
Whats the matter buckey boy? Either they think you are screwing it up or they are holding your feet to the fire to toe the skeptic party line or both.
Now I’ll have to spend the rest of the day repenting you rascal.
I forgive you my child.
Thanks for notifying the group! I’m glad I can count on you for such tasks.
It’s referred to as *throwing him under the bus*.
Nice friends.....
Except that we’re honest about it and do it out in the open for others to see.
We’re not ashamed of our actions and have nothing to hide.
You, OTOH, .......
In Buck’s defense, saying something is allegory is not remotely the same as saying it’s a lie or inaccurate. For example, the parables Jesus told are allegorical, stories about fictional people meant to convey truths about a real God and his expectations. So, though there are many problems with the premise (which I won’t waste your time with) it’s possible to say, “I am a Christian who believes the Bible, and Genesis 1-3 are an allegory.”
My question is how one continues to believe in Jesus as Messiah after finding out he’s descended from an allegorical character. It’s sort of like finding out a presidential candidate has Yankee Doodle listed in his genealogy, or finding out Governor Perry claims that Pecos Bill is his great-great-great-great-grandfather.
"'Tis but a scratch; I've had worse,"
Let’s see...I count one, two, three,...eight, nine of you. Oh, wait! Can’t forget her! She’s my favorite Hare Christian cultist! Make that ten of you.
That’s a pretty small number. Fortunately, the vast majority of Christians accept and appreciate the allegory in scripture. Despite your dwindling number, though, you do have a small but measurable deleterious impact on the reputation of Christians; you make us appear simple-minded. My disclaimer did more to advance the reputation of Christians than any of your Swaggart-inspired literalist rantings ever could.
I’ll be expecting 10 thank-you cards from you now!
Oh, and ping the group for me again.
Indeed, yet those sections where allegory is applied, it is clear that it IS allegory for the most part.
So, though there are many problems with the premise (which I wont waste your time with) its possible to say, I am a Christian who believes the Bible, and Genesis 1-3 are an allegory.
I have no problem with you statement as presented.
My question is how one continues to believe in Jesus as Messiah after finding out hes descended from an allegorical character.
Certainly. But if Jesus is just an allegory . . . what's the use of trying to claim one is a "Christian". One 'believes' in a fictional Jesus - then one has a 'Christianity' based upon fiction too.
I understand the huge and significant difference between saying that the Bible CONTAINS allegory and the Bible IS allegory.
"I'm invincible!"
"You're a looney".
I know there is allegory in the Bible and would have no issue in giving example, such as the obvious parables and even in the creation account.
But saying the Bible is allegory leaves a lot of questions...
Perhaps either one should choose their words with more caution or study a tick more...
