I own a 1917 Eddystone. Sweet gun.
I’ve never fired a .303 SMLE, but if its action is smoother than a 30-40 Krag, I tip my cap to it.

I really like the Win '92 action and it is one of the strongest lever actions made. Rossi makes one in a 454 Casull. I push .45 cal. 255gr cast bullets about 1,650 fps using Unique in the lever actions and about 1,100 fps in Ruger Bisleys. I also have .45 ACP cylinders for these pistols.
You should look at getting a production pot and click here for a great source for bullet alloys. Otherwise watch out for those pesky surveillance cameras in the Walmart parking when collecting wheel weights! ;-)

I also have a No. 4 Mk.I - Mines been sporterized and I look forward to harvesting some venison with it this weekend.
I'll pass this one on to one of the kids in about 50 years or so.

Nothing like owning a piece of history. I’ve always wanted a 1903 Springfield.

We have the RCBS pot . . . the turkey fryer and the kitchen sink are simply the first stage to get valve stems, cigarette butts, candy wrappers, etc. out of our 5 gallon buckets of wheelweights. A friend of a friend runs a small tire shop and has never bothered to sign up with the recycling people. So we send him 5 gal plastic buckets and they come back full of wheelweights (and valve stems, cigarette butts, and candy wrappers. One of his mechanics smokes. The other one doesn't, but he eats Snickers and Raisinettes).
Thanks for the link to the metals source. Always great to have a backup in case the free source runs out!
We don't shove these bullets too hard because of rules and also because wheelweights wouldn't work so good then (or we'd have to put gas checks on 'em). And the targets are real close so you don't need a lot of oomph. Some people in the club download until the bullets barely roll out of the barrel, but shooting .38 instead of my usual .45 ACP I don't even notice the recoil with fairly standard loads. We did switch to Clays from Unique because as much as I love that powder it's FILTHY and after 6 stages of around 25 rounds each we have 4 firearms each to clean!

Yep, I own two '06s (actually, they're a matched his and her set). And a .348 Winchester Model 71 (that's really my dad's, but I'm allowed to shoot it when I'm good). And I've shot skeet with my grandfather's humpback Browning 12 ga (that's a punisher!) My personal hymn of hate is reserved for the 7mm Rem Mag, which for some reason has a nasty recoil out of proportion to its muzzle energy.
The No. 5 also has an accuracy problem, probably because extensive cuts were made to the barrel and receiver to lighten the weight. But it's a cool looking rifle (I have one).

The Indians have a knockoff of just about
everything!
An old British Army friend of my dad's said that as recently as the 60s you could still buy homemade copies of the SMLEs in the bazaars in Afghanistan, complete with broad arrow marks . . . .
As George MacDonald Fraser said, what are the wild men of the world going to do when the last Lee Enfield wears out . . . . .

The accuracy tends to vary from gun to gun. - Probably because of differing levels of use. Also, if you develop a psychological anticipation of recoil for a particular rifle, it can definitely affect your accuracy.

The inaccuracy is not just me (and actually I'm not a bad shot with it because recoil is a relative thing. If the .348 doesn't bother me . . . ) It's the official reason why the British Army decommissioned the rifle. And they kept on making the full size battle rifle for years (and even converted a bunch to 7.62 NATO) so obsolescence wasn't the reason.
Any time you cut away large amounts of steel from the barrel and receiver, you are begging for accuracy problems and 'wandering zero', especially once the barrel heats up.
It's a cutie, fun to shoot, but it's got undeniable problems. The Brits don't wantonly dump rifles (witness the long life of the full size SMLE).

I used to have an Enfield .303Brit. My ex wasn't that much of a shooter till she tried it. When she left, my rifle went with her.
I sure miss that old rifle!!!!! (sob)

I’ve purchased at least 300lbs from them over time and have not had any problems. Loved your description of the trashy free wheel weights... Lol, that was funny. Good shooting!
