You couldn’t use pets! You’d have to get some hog-dogs, maybe. Pit bulls, Catahoulas, Rhodesian Rodgebacks, etc.
I think they would be effective.

Forgive me but I am not good at cutting and pasting articles. But if you google: giant python Indonesia you will come across a massive 49 foot 983 pound python in captivity in Indonesia. There are photos and videptapes of the giant snake in its enclosure. Quite an amazing story.
