Exactly. These reports of foxes in my area (central NC) - suburban area not near major woods or rural areas - just seem very out of place.

Take care there and if you see a fox hissing at you....get outa there!

Wild animal’s “normal” behavior can be altered slightly if they’ve adapted to urban/suburban life.

For instance, the sparrows in the WalMart strip mall are out hunting the parking lot for food 24/7 because it basically never gets dark.

Normally nocturnal wildlife that has learned to subsist on trash will become emboldened to to come out during the daytime if no humans scare them back into normal behavior.

Considering that nearly everything is “protected” now, the odds of that are growing smaller each day.

There are more deer hit by cars in sub/urban areas per square mile than in the country.

They’ve learned to love the freshly mowed lawns and expensive shrubbery laid out like a banquet.

Out here in deer hunting heaven, they run like hell when they see a human because they know we don’t buy the “Bambi” crap and love they way they taste....:)

Better safe than very sorry...avoid stuff like foxes, coons, stray cats and skunks.
[the top 4 “rabies vectors” in my state]
They *may* just be “bold” or they may be cute and cuddly walking death.

No sense in taking the risk to find out which.

What’s *really* sad is that before the idiot neighbor pulled his ‘feral cat banquet’ stunt, we regularly live trapped coons to train my dad’s coon hounds because no one in local living memory ever heard of or saw a real rabid animal.

I’ve walked many a mile back home carrying a Hav-A-Hart with a 25 pound seriously p*ssed off coon inside.

Wouldn’t even *dream* of doing that now.
