I actually bumped into Red Skelton one February morning in Reading, PA in the early 1980s. He was walking down the deserted sidewalk of the main street; it was a very cold day.
He was there to promote the conservation and rennovation of a local theatre. I did get his autograph; he was very shy but friendly.
Unfortunately, the theatre (the “Astor”) was eventually razed, “to put up a parking lot”.
I lost his autograph, too, with all my moving around. Rats!
Steerforth!~
Red Skelton is on my list of guys who I wish I had met before they passed on. My list would include Ronald Reagan, Mickey Mantle, John Wayne, William Buckley, Howard Hill, Buck O’Neil, James Montgomery Boice, Al Maguire, Peter Capstick.... For one reason or another, I admired all these men.
