Sounds like she has been told what happens to snitches....
The four have had their mug shots blasted round the world courtesy of Newsday et al.
When do we get to see her mug shot for ruining 4 lives, wasting police time and resources and generally behaving like a complete idiot?
They did give her name: “The four were arrested after 18-year-old freshman Danmell Ndonye made her ugly, false accusation.”
“Mangum received a degree in Police Psychology from North Carolina Central University. “
Right. She didn’t miss a single semester, and graduated on time. Two of those she accused (the third had graduated) had to miss a year of schooling, and transfer out of state.
“Mike Nifong was disbarred and was convicted of one court of criminal contempt of court, was fined $500, and served one day in jail. He later declared bankruptcy to avoid having to pay any civil damages.”
Note that, unlike the Hofstra case DA, neither Nifong nor the police ever interviewed the indicted defendants about the case; and did not interview Mangum until ten months after she made her charges. (What a way to run an investigation!) But it didn’t matter, because the mere fact of a “poor working woman of color” making an accusation against “rich white Duke students” was enough to make the case triable (and virtually convict the accused).
“Duke lacrosse coach Mike Pressler, who had been discharged by Duke U., later sued the school and received a settlement; he is now coaching lacrosse elsewhere. “
Pressler was forced to resign without being given any chance to be heard (he asked the school to wait for the DNA results to come back, and the school refused and told him it was no longer about the truth, but about public perceptions, the university’s reputation, the NAACP, etc.)
He claims that Duke violated its settlement with him and his suit is now re-opened.
He is the ONLY Duke employee to have lost his job over the case.
No, they don’t. However, if they ever make another complaint (valid or otherwise) and the record is in the system, somewhere, you can bet her case against someone had best be airtight or her assailant will walk. The problem is there is no way to track a serial liar.
That’s the problem. They will do it again, if not stopped, unless there is something in the system that makes a note of false allegations. Police are in a difficult position, they have to act on a charge, but there is no follow up to make certain the creative genius of these false accusers is limited in scope and effect.
