R. Lee ErmeyDrill Instructor not Drill Sergeant.
A retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant or "Gunny"(sic),
Incorrect. Ermey is a retired Staff Sergeant. Jones made him an honorary Gunny in May of 2002 for PR purposes; ala "Gomer Pyle" being promoted to L/CPL in August of 2001, but his monthly disability check is based on the rank of Staff Sergeant not Gunnery Sergeant.

He was awarded a retroactive promotion to Gunnery Sergeant for his work with the troops and generally being a “face” of the USMC. Incorrect. Jones made Ermey and honorary Gunny as a PR move. Nothing retroactive about a meaningless honorary "promotion".
