It is a Democrat tradition that the simple act of dying does not prevent one from retaining the right to vote. I’m surprised that Senator Kennedy doesn’t recognize this fact. He should realize that even after his death he should still be able to vote to end debate in the case of a Republican filibuster of the Health Reform Bill. I guess he’s not as smart as I thought.
"Current law mandates that a special election be held at least 145 days after the seat becomes available. Mr. Kennedy is concerned that such a delay could leave his fellow Democrats in the Senate one vote short of a filibuster-proof majority for months while a special election takes place. "
FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)
So, does this mean MA doesn’t have the Governor appoint someone?
Guess I forget things can be different in different states.
I know. I couldn’t believe that it was his very intervention that changed the law to when John Fn Kerry was running for POTUS.
Those Kennedys think laws only apply to others. How pathetic.
Teddy Kennedy changed the succession rules to deny a Republican Governor the opportunity to name an interim successor. Now that Kennedy is at death’s door, he wants the rules he changed reversed so that a DEMOCRATIC governor can do exactly what he sought to deny Governor Romney.
If this isn’t the height of hypocrisy, I don’t know what is.
Kennedy got the law changed so that a ‘pub governor could not appoint a ‘pub to a vacancy.
Lloyd Bridges?
Oh, right, he’s already gone, too, I think.
They can’t win if they can’t cheat.
Yes. Massachusetts should not go without two senators, even if it’s for only a few months. 77.1%
No. The state should not appoint someone to the post before an election is held. 22.9%
Total votes: 13755
I smell a Rat. Smells like a Kennedy too.
Will driving or sobriety tests be a prerequisite to this appointment? Perhaps they could compose a list of murderers who escaped conviction to find the right person.
Actually, everybody suffers less with political inaction, under these circumstances.
This group is incapable of improving anything for anyone but Satan.
UnderZer0 care, I wonder if the Swimmer would have been treated for his brain cancer??
“Teddy, based on your condition, the panel has decided that you are to receive a consultation from our death consultant. Here’s a couple of pills, and a bottle of morphine if the pain gets too bad.
“As soon as the consulting doctor clears out his backlog, probably in a few months, he’ll set up an appointment with you for about 6 weeks out.
“Meanwhile, have a nice life!”
My guess is Teddy does not even get to prugatory and he has an express elevator to hell.
Deval Patrick could just appoint Lucifer as he would not be worse than any Kennedy.
Wonderful idea, and while we are at it, lets get rid of direct election of Senators, and have them appointed and serve at the discretion of the States.

It depends on that states constitution.
Now Kennedy wants to arm twisted a change in Mass law back to the old law so the current Dem Gov. can pick a new Senator asap
If you think that is pathetic, just wait until the pig dies: Guaranteed 24/7 news coverage and a push to have him nominated for sainthood. It will be 10 times worse than Michael Jackson. MSNBC will wear black armbands for a month. Just wait and see...
