Do you mean the sigma? I own that, and I like it pretty well for my first handgun.

If you live in MA, forget the S&W M&P line unless you intend to get a trigger job right off the bat. The MA-compliant triggers on M&Ps sucks. I’ve heard free-state M&Ps have much better triggers.

For 9mm, I’m a big fan of the Beretta 92fs

Any pistol is better than no pistol at all.

Why buy the M&P when you can buy a tried and true weapon that is the standard for ruggedness and reliability? Buy a Glock, especially when you can buy police trade-ins for $300.

Smith makes a fine revolver, am skeptical about the autos. If you are a new gun user, I don’t recommend Glock, but go with something that has an external safety and hammer: Sig, Beretta, Taurus, etc.

Also, what is the purpose of said weapon? If you are looking for personal defense, get something bigger than a 9. Go with a .40 or a .45. If you want a revolver, get a .357. A 9mm is small and does not have real stopping power. You can get lighter loads in the other three that will have plenty of knockdown, but not that much knockback.

That said, find something that will be comfortable in YOUR hand and YOUR personal feelings.

Am always interested to hear how things work out, so Freepmail me when you make your decision.

Stick with what works, Sig Sauer, H&K superior arms both but to be honest nothing says:

STOP
or
OH NO YOU DON"T

like a .45! just to make sure that there is no question that your safe.

Never attend a gunfight with a handgun, the caliber of which starts with a number less than “4”......

If you must have a plastic 9mm, buy a Glock. I personally prefer heftier steel guns, such as the Les Baer ThunderRanch in .45 ACP.

Just to toss another name in the hat: Take a look at the Magnum Research Baby Eagle.

It’s an Israeli weapon with a reasonable price tag. I got mine for ~$500, and you can get ‘em in steel or polymer.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the M&P models.
They’re not just washed-over SIGMAs (yech!).

Good triggers (unlike the amazingly shitty SIGMA triggers).
I like the grip interchangeability.

When I was buying another 9mm, I went with the Glock 19 because I’m familiar with Glocks and my rigs are Glock-centric.

That said, If I was divested from other firearms, I’d look at the M&P pistols very carefully.

Get a Sig Sauer, Glock 17 or Springfield Armory XDM (9 or 40). You cannot go wrong with any of these weapons.

I have a S&W 686P but am not a fan of S&W semi’s (except for the older model 41’s in .22 lr.) Have you considered taking a look at CZ? If you want a nine, their 75D or P-01 compacts are very nice and reasonably priced too.

Bump for later. Thinking about a M&P 9mm compact myself. I’ve read some good reviews on it.

I have the M&P .40 - great gun. Reliable, accurate and easy to take down.
